After many collaborations in collective projects, the pianist creates Phonem, a more personal project, in which she instills her moving conception of composition. She surrounds Reno Silva Couto on saxophone, Philippe Burneau on bass and Tilo Bertholo on drums. Born in 2016, the project opens very quickly to more ephemeral meetings and musicians are regularly invited. This first album marks both the beginning of a promising career and the accomplishment of several years of collaborations, exchanges and learning. Magic Malik and Vincent Segal, who saw the birth of the project and immediately supported and encouraged it, are naturally invited on two tracks of the album. Animus Volandi is a snapshot. That of a living music, which is renewed with each interpretation. The idea of ​​the composer is that a piece can take a direction always new, according to the initiatives of each. Writing is the pretext for more freedom, through improvisation and the interaction it allows. The influences are wide: we find the idea of ​​polyrhythm dear to Steve Coleman and Magic Malik, but also contemporary music, repetitive, which completes the whole and makes it more elusive. Intentions differ and come together, and create the richness of this music of chance, as Paul Auster would say. A sensitive and solid disc, which has a lot to offer.

Holy Dio: A Tribute to Ronnie James Dio is much better executed than most heavy metal tribute albums, even involving Dio himself, who pens an introduction for the liner notes. Most of the bands are culled from the portion of Century Media's stable that's influenced chiefly by British metal, often with a progressive or Gothic touch, which makes them a perfect fit for the tribute's subject. That doesn't mean all of them deliver - there are still a few performances that are too mannered or enslaved to the originals - but, overall, it's pretty effective for a tribute album. Bands present include Fates Warning, Yngwie Malmsteen, Hammerfall, Axel Rudi Pell, Gamma Ray, and Blind Guardian, among others.

As a child, Kelly showed considerable musical aptitude. Later, she studied classical piano, clarinet and voice at the Eastman School of Music. To this she added drama and dance studies. By the time that she began to make an impression on the club circuit in New York state, she had turned herself into an immensely talented all-round entertainer, singing and playing piano, bass and drums. Her repertoire is eclectic, drawing from jazz and pop, stage and cabaret; her performing style is similarly varied as she adapts herself to suit both material and audience. She has played at many important venues, performing with symphony orchestras as well as jazz groups. Among artists with whom she has worked are Benny Goodman and Nelson Riddle. Her recording debut, Live Jazz, which found her in good jazz company, including Peter Erskine and Ernie Watts, reached number 11 in the Billboard jazz charts in 1988.
