    Scurvy - Fracture (2010)
    Label: Hi 4 Head Records | FLAC (image + .cue, log, scans), MP3-320 kbps | 47:29 | 332 MB, 112 MB | 10 tracks
    Genre: Jazz Rock, Avant Prog

Released in 2010 on the independent Hi 4 Head Records imprint, Fracture stands as a thrilling, complex, and intensely fiery studio statement from the cutting-edge Brooklyn-based experimental collective Scurvy. Over ten adventurous tracks and forty-seven minutes of music, the group effortlessly destroys the boundaries between avant-garde jazz improvisation, heavy math-rock precise rhythms, and abrasive electronic processing. The acoustic horn interplay of saxophonist Johnny Butler and trombonist Ryan Snow twists around the jagged, fractured guitar lines of Adam Caine, while bassist Rus Wimbish and lightning-fast drummer Jason Nazary provide a relentless, thunderous polyrhythmic foundation. From the deceptive calm of Meditation to the furious technical architecture of SnoCaine and the glitchy avant-prog soundscapes of QNG, this album delivers an exceptionally modern, high-energy sonic assault. Scurvy crafts a deeply rewarding and dark listening experience that perfectly mirrors the intense creative energy and raw friction of the 21st-century downtown New York underground music movement.

Ever the iconoclast, if there is one thing that Brian Eno has done with any degree of consistency throughout his varied career, it is presenting his art in an array of perpetually "out of the box" forums. All that changed – in a manner of speaking – with the release of two companion multi-disc compilations. Eno Box I: Instrumentals (1994) condenses his wordless creations, while Eno Box II: Vocals (1993) does the same for the rest of his major works on a similarly sized volume. Interestingly – and in his typically contrary fashion – this initial installment was actually issued last. Each of Eno Box I: Instrumentals' three CDs respectively concentrates on a specific facet of the artist's copious back catalog.

The 80s was the decade of the 12 inch. In the UK, all previous instalments of this series sold extremely well and received widespread critical acclaim. The Guardian called the series a "genuine act of music archaeology". From the pop dance genius of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Relax and Donna Summer's I Feel Love through to the more alternative Lullaby by The Cure, and onto classics such as Teardrops by Womack & Womack… This 3CD compilation has it all, in its full 12" glory.

Synthpop, Electronic, New Wave, Post-Punk, Dance-Rock

UK three CD collection. This release charts the birth of synthesized pop music in the 1980s and ultimately the roots of contemporary electronic dance music. The importance and continued popularity of '80s pop is not to be underestimated, and the emergence of serious synthesized music producers in Kraftwerk, The Human League, Heaven 17, OMD, Yazoo, Ultravox, Talk Talk, Japan, Devo, Sparks, Gary Numan, New Order and the Pet Shop Boys, all of whom massively pushed the boundaries in experimenting with (mainly) Roland synths in this era, ultimately showed the way for the House and Techno producers of the '90s to the present day. Within this more serious side there was also some brilliant, pure Synthpop from the Thompson Twins, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Thomas Dolby, Simple Minds, Propaganda, Erasure, China Crisis, Belouis Some, the Lotus Eaters, a Flock of Seagulls, Howard Jones, Blancmange and the Associates.

    Label: ECM | FLAC (image + .cue,log,scans) | 50:41 | 301 MB | 10 tracks
    Genre: Jazz, Contemporary Jazz

The sophomore leader date from Norwegian trumpeter, composer, and sonic architect Nils Petter Molvaer marks a definitive and historically crucial turning point in the late-twentieth-century evolution of electro-acoustic fusion. Released via the esteemed ECM Records imprint, this landmark conceptual production expands brilliantly upon the pioneering structures of his debut, seamlessly dissolving the lines that traditionally separate live contemporary jazz improvisation from hyper-modern underground electronic rhythms. Molvaer surrounds his fragile, heavily mutated trumpet phrasing—frequently filtered through an array of digital delays, harmonizers, and vocoders—with an imposing, industrialized rhythmic framework built out of dark ambient synthesizers, precise turntablism, aggressive loops, and deep drum-and-bass grooves. The resulting soundscapes alternate effortlessly between moments of stark, meditative vulnerability and heavy sonic tension, delivering a deeply influential masterwork that redefines the parameters of modern Scandinavian future-jazz design.

Art of Noise (also The Art of Noise) were an English avant-garde synth-pop group formed in early 1983 by engineer/producer Gary Langan and programmer J. J. Jeczalik, along with arranger Anne Dudley, producer Trevor Horn and music journalist Paul Morley. The group had international Top 20 hits with "Kiss" and the instrumental "Peter Gunn", which won a 1986 Grammy Award. The group's mostly instrumental compositions were novel melodic sound collages based on digital sampler technology, which was new at the time. Inspired by turn-of-the-20th-century revolutions in music, the Art of Noise were initially packaged as a faceless anti- or non-group, blurring the distinction between the art and its creators. Collection includes: (Who's Afraid Of?) The Art Of Noise! (1984); In Visible Silence (1986); In No Sense? Nonsense! (1987); Below The Waste (1989); The Ambient Collection (1990); The FON Mixes (1991); The Seduction Of Claude Debussy (1999).

This CD is interesting on several levels. It is refreshing to hear EC branch out and try new and different things. Great driving music. Some really pretty things too. My Eric Clapton tribute band, Slowhand, uses Retail Therapy as warm up music and between the opener and main show. We usually get at least a few comments on the choice, nearly always favourable. This CD is a must for any serious Clapton collector.

Balance is a spectacularly serene, deeply therapeutic, and masterfully textured ambient studio masterpiece by the acclaimed electronic composer and sound designer Chuck Wild, recording under his prominent musical moniker Liquid Mind, released in 1999 by the premier New Age archival label Real Music. Spanning over 56 minutes across 5 long-form, highly cohesive instrumental tracks, this high-fidelity studio document stands as a defining monument in the evolution of functional therapeutic music. Created deliberately to reduce anxiety and assist with sleep, meditation, and stress management, Chuck Wild completely bypasses predictable melodic resolution and sudden percussive rhythmic shifts, opting instead to build a luxurious, continuous flow of zero-beat sonic environments.
