2010 four CD anthology from the British Blues legend. John Mayall's band, The Bluesbreakers, were undoubtedly a hot-house for the British Blues scene in the late '60s and early `70s and it's quite staggering when you examine the roll call of floating members who served their apprenticeship with John Mayall including Jack Bruce, Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green, Keef Hartley, John McVie, Mick Taylor and Steve Winwood. This lavish box set contains 74 tracks, all newly remastered from the original master tapes, including five tracks released in Europe on CD for the first time. The 40-page booklet features sleevenotes by Mark Powell with rare and previously unseen photographs.

Cheap Trick may no longer be playing the stadiums that the group's monumental talent surely warrants, but they do have one of the most loyal cult followings in all rock & roll. Thus, when Epic Records decided to release a four-disc box set celebrating the quartet's 20th anniversary with the label, someone there was smart enough to let the band put together a collection for the collectors. Some hits are here (including "Surrender"), but, as a good example, there's no "He's a Whore," which Cheap Trick probably figured their fans should already own.

In the liner notes to these carefully packaged reissues, all four of the Incredible String Band principals– co-founder Clive Palmer, core duo Mike Heron and Robin Williamson, and Elektra records executive Joe Boyd– offer their insights in separate essays. Three of them mention the smell of patchouli. Such were the times, certainly, but the ISB are loved equally by avant-garde musicians, psychedelia enthusiasts, and those slightly dweeby young gentlemen who hang around music shops on college campuses. The reissue of their first four albums probably put to rest any notion that the ISB were a properly great band, releasing just one true classic, but they were rarely anything less than brave, inspired, and profoundly weird.

Released only ten months after their debut album, Stay With the Hollies, their second album was a huge leap forward in every respect. Their famous airtight harmonies were now in place, and the sloppiness of the instrumental attack gone. Most important, the group developed enormously as songwriters. Eight of the 12 tracks were Hollies originals and quite skillful in their mastery of the British Invasion essentials of driving, catchy melodies and shining harmonies. A couple of the covers are duds, but the "Nitty Gritty/Something's Got a Hold of Me" medley is first-rate, and the version of "It's in His Kiss" (retitled "It's in Her Kiss") respectable. The Hollies weren't from Liverpool (though Manchester is fairly close), but this nonetheless ranks of one of the very best Merseybeat albums not released by the Beatles themselves…

Archie Shepp at his spiritual best - recording in Paris in 1969, and absorbing a heck of a lot pan-African influences! Shepp's in the lead on tenor - working with a great lineup of up-and coming avant geniuses - Clifford Thortnton on cornet, Lester Bowie on trumpet, Roscoe Mitchell on bass saxophone, Dave Burrell on piano, Malachi Favors on bass, Philly Joe Jones and Sunny Murray on drums - and the unusual addition of Art Taylor on "rhythm logs" and Laurence Devereaux on balafon! The centerpiece of the album is the amazing "Yasmina" - a long track that builds with passion and fire, pulsing with an intensity that you'd expect more from Pharoah Sanders than Shepp himself. Next up is "Sonny's Back", a wonderful straight jazz groover with Archie and Hank Mobley on twin tenors upfront - making a rare and memorable recorded appearance together! The set's capped off by a mellow version of "Body & Soul", one that points towards the more soulful side of Shepp's work in the 70s.

Premiata Forneria Marconi's Live History 1971-1981 (also known as 10 Anni Live 1971-1981) is a comprehensive 4-CD anthology capturing the evolution of Italy's premier prog band, showcasing high-energy performances from their symphonic peak through their late-70s jazz-fusion shift. It is praised for its historical breadth, though hindered by inconsistent bootleg-quality sound and repetitive tracks.

Digitally remastered edition of this album from the French electronic music pioneer. Geometry of Love is the fifteenth studio album by Jean-Michel Jarre, originally released in October 2003. This album has more in common with the preceding Sessions 2000 album than releases prior, but the style here is still more electronica than jazz. The music was to be lounge music, played in the background or in the chill-out area of a club. The album was commissioned by Jean-Roch, as a soundtrack for his VIP Room nightclub in France.

Swedish gothic doom entity Draconian is finally back! Their new studio album, In Somnolent Ruin, will creep its way from the artist’s spirit into the light of day on May 8, 2026 via Napalm Records.
