Since forming in 2008, Chicano Batman have followed their own visionary impulses to tremendous heights—a journey that began at local dive bars and recently saw them co-headlining the legendary Hollywood Bowl. In the making of Notebook Fantasy, Chicano Batman worked with producer John Congleton (Erykah Badu, Death Cab For Cutie, St. Vincent) to double down on their hyper-creative tendencies, discovering new dimensions of their prismatic music while infusing the lyrics with an unflinching honesty.

Mariah Carey's first proper album since 2009 is a couple covers away from being as nostalgic as the Glitter soundtrack. Its title – well, the part that precedes the ellipses – is taken from a self-portrait, reproduced on the back, drawn at the age of three and a half. "I'll just sit right here and sing that good old school shit to ya," she sings on "Dedicated," a song seasoned with a Wu-Tang sample, a Nas throwback verse, and reminiscent chatter. Like many other songs on the album, flashbacks are laced through the music as well as in the lyrics, with Carey reflecting upon happier moments in a relationship while either pining or scolding.

Drawing mainly on recordings from the genre's golden age of the 1950s, the 48-track Jamaica Is The Place To Go explores Mento, the island's original popular music. Together with the American R&B favoured by local sound systems, Mento represents the origins of modern Jamaican music. History lesson aside, Jamaica Is The Place To Go offers over two hours of infectious fun: the perfect soundtrack to your summer! When Fantastic Voyage released Mento, Not Calypso! The Original Sound Of Jamaica in 2013, it was a journey into uncharted waters for the label, but one that has proved so popular that, two years on, we are proud to present Jamaica Is The Place To Go, another 2CD survey of Jamaica's most popular form of indigenous music pre-ska.

The Marvelettes Forever More: The Complete Motown Albums Vol. 2 The final albums in a storied career, plus 25 unreleased tracks! When, in 1961, the Marvelettes climbed to the top of the national pop charts with their first single, "Please Mr. Postman," they brought Motown with them, helping to establish the little label from Detroit. That first phase of the group's career was thoroughly chronicled in Forever: The Complete Motown Albums Vol. 1, a 3-CD limited edition set that brought together the group's first six albums and every stray single, B-side and rarity from the early era. Now, on the 50th anniversary of "Please Mr. Postman" becoming Motown's first No. 1 hit, comes Forever More: The Complete Motown Albums Vol. 2. The 4-CD set, with 108 songs, collects the group's highly sought-after, final four albums, originally released 1967-1970.

Hip-O Select's 2009 triple-disc set Forever: The Complete Motown Albums, Vol. 1 rounds up all the LPs the Marvelettes released between 1961 and 1963 – 1961's Please Mr. Postman, The Marvelettes Sing, and Playboy both released in 1962, 1963's The Marvelous Marvelettes, and On Stage: Recorded Live – plus the stereo version of 1966's Greatest Hits and a bunch of mono singles and rarities. The Vol. 1 in the set signals that the Marvelettes had a second run at Motown later in the decade, highlighted by the this "The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game" and "My Baby Must Be a Magician," but this has everything from the band's prime period, running from 1961 to 1965, the time when they rivaled the Supremes as the greatest girl group Motown had to offer.

A true underground legend, Madeleine Bell may not be a household name (yet) but her position as the pre-eminent session singer for the past forty years means her warm, soulful tones are instantly recognizable. Her beautiful voice has floated across radio, television, film soundtracks, the internet & now is finally available solo on CD. 'Doin' Things', her second Phillips LP, is being re-issued for the first time with two non-album singles from the same period as well as a b-side to a single that prefaced this LP, Go Ahead On, a co-write with Dusty Springfield, who also recorded her own version.

An often stirring 20-member ensemble whose music was better suited for devotional and inspirational material than commercial R&B or soul, the Voices of East Harlem included lead vocalists Gerri Griffin and Monica Burress. Producers Leroy Hutson and Curtis Mayfield worked with the group, whose ages ranged from 12 to 21, and cut some material on the Just Sunshine label that didn't generate any chart action. But their 1973 LP, The Voices of East Harlem, was a superbly performed release nonetheless, and the single 'Cashing In' was a cult favorite. The single 'Wanted Dead or Alive' was later reissued as a 12' remixed cut and got some international dance attention.

Included here are all of the songs that made the lascivious Millie Jackson an item on R&B stations as one of the hottest live performers. From her debut "Child of God" to later R&B/country fusions like her hankie-wringing remake of "If You're Not in Love by Monday," Jackson's throaty voice demands your full attention. She rarely crossed over significantly, but "Ask Me What You Want," "My Man, a Sweet Man," "All the Way Lover," and her popular "It Hurts So Good," all made noticeable bangs on Billboard's R&B Singles Chart. 21 of the Best is a good introduction for Millie Jackson neophytes, and a grand collection of her greatest hits for those who purchased the original 45s and the occasional album.

This time our journey leads us through various musical styles, originating from countries as diverse as Barbados, Guyana, Germany, and the US. But the one quality these tunes all share is that they, once again, will make you get up, get down, and get ready for some more highly underrated MODERN SOUL, DISCO and BOOGIE!

The new jack-meets-gospel production style of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis helped Sounds of Blackness place three singles ("Optimistic," "The Pressure," "Testify") from 1991's Evolution of Gospel high on the pop charts, and truthfully, that album still stands as the best introduction to the Sounds of Blackness collective. Which is not meant to disparage anthologies such as this one, which collects all three of the big hits as well as interesting revisits to Sly Stone's "You Can Make It if You Try" and Gamble & Huff's "Love Train," but as a group dedicated to presenting the full spectrum of African-American music, Sounds of Blackness got it exactly right on Evolution of Gospel. Start there.

Ev'rything's Coming Up Dusty is the second studio album by singer Dusty Springfield, released on Philips Records in the UK in 1965. Springfield's 1964 debut album, A Girl Called Dusty, sold well enough to make her Philips Records' top-selling female artist. For this, her second album, Philips presented it in a gatefold sleeve and included extensive liner notes. While including a number of fairly standard "pop" songs, Ev'rything's Coming Up Dusty also saw Springfield venturing more into show tunes like "Who Can I Turn To (When Nobody Needs Me)?" as well as the soul music for which Springfield became so well known for singing. "Doodlin'" and "That's How Heartaches Are Made" were minor hits for Baby Washington, one of Springfield's personal favourite singers. Springfield also included the song "La Bamba", which was a popular concert number for her, though not in step with the general style of the album. The album gave Dusty another chart success peaking at No.6 on the UK Charts and No.4 on the NME charts that following month.
