Staged by the FLYING STEPS and the Brazilian artist duo OSGEMEOS, "Pictures at an Exhibition" combines elements of art, music and dance performance. Following the successful productions "Flying Bach" and "Flying Illusion", the Berlin-based FLYING STEPS invite you to their new production, which will celebrate its premiere in Berlin. In cooperation with the Nationalgalerie, which invited the FLYING STEPS through Udo Kittelmann to the Neue Nationalgalerie as early as 2010, "Images of an Exhibition" will be created in April 2019 at the "Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart - Berlin".

Born in Prague in 1737, Josef Mysliveček spent most of his short life in Italy, where for a while he enjoyed success with his many operas, and became known as ‘Il Boemo’ (‘The Bohemian’). It was also in Italy – in Bologna – that he first met Mozart, in 1770. Their paths would cross again and in letters Mozart wrote about him with affection, describing him as full of ‘fire, spirit and life’. Mysliveček’s influence is apparent in Mozart’s early operas, violin concertos, symphonies and keyboard music. His music soon fell out of fashion, however, and it is only recent decades that have seen more interest in works such as the wind octets, violin concertos and symphonies. In comparison, Mysliveček’s output for keyboard has been somewhat neglected, something which the English pianist Clare Hammond seeks to rectify with her latest disc.

Bernard Foccroulle devotes his latest recording – the last of the anthology of Northern German organ music of the Baroque period – to Jacob Praetorius and Melchior Schildt, both pupils of Sweelinck. Praetorius and Schildt’s music is not only strongly marked by Lutheran tradition, in which the chorale played a fundamental part, but also by other influences, principally Italian, that prepared the way for the explosion of the stylus fantasticus at the end of the 17th century.

Jos van Immerseel: “While since its foundation in 1987 Anima Eterna Brugge has grown organically into a symphonic orchestra, chamber music once again forms an important part of our repertory today. We will continue our journey through orchestral music, but want to broaden our base by including chamber music as well.”

1000 Hands: Chapter One is the fifteenth studio album by English singer-songwriter and musician Jon Anderson, released March 2019. The album originates from sessions for a project to have been called Uzlot (a northern English pronunciation of "us lot") that Anderson had been recording in Big Bear, California, with Brian Chatton in around 1990. Anderson asked his then Yes bandmates Chris Squire and Alan White to play on the project too. At the time, Yes were preparing for a tour and Anderson put the master tapes in his garage and, as he has recounted, gave them very little thought for many years. In 2016, producer Michael Franklin contacted Anderson about using the tapes and finishing an album. Further recordings followed at Solar Studios in Orlando, Florida. Along with some newly written material, the final result is 1000 Hands.

After finally running out their 13-year, seven-plus album deal with a poisonously indifferent Atlantic Records via 2005's workmanlike Octavarium, progressive metal standard bearers Dream Theater took advantage of their well earned free agent status to enjoy a heated courtship from several interested labels, before eventually settling on the artistically simpatico Roadrunner. But, ironically, Dream Theater's first album for the label that heavy metal built, 2007's Systematic Chaos, was relatively accessible by the group's standards, complementing every epic and complex composition with a comparatively concise and hooky song, thus leaving it to its 2009 successor, Black Clouds & Silver Linings, to really flex the band's progressive metal muscles to their maximum girth…

The full details of the soundtrack album for Neil Marshall’s new film adaptation of Hellboy have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Benjamin Wallfisch (It, Shazam!, Blade Runner 2049, Hidden Figures, Annabelle Creation). Also included is Unprotected Innocence’s Spanish version of the Scorpions’ Rock Me Like a Hurricane. The soundtrack will be released on April 5 by Sony Classical and is now available for pre-order here. A CD version is now available to order as an import on Amazon. Hellboy is directed by Neil Marshall and stars David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, Daniel Dae Kim and Penelope Mitchell. The movie is based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola and follows the title character as he is caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge. The action adventure will open in theaters nationwide on April 12.

The music of New Line Cinema’s “Shazam!” was scored by Benjamin Wallfisch, the Golden Globe®, BAFTA®, 2x GRAMMY® and Emmy® nominated composer whose career spans over 75 feature films, recently including the critically acclaimed  BLADE RUNNER: 2049, and the most successful horror film of all time, IT. Wallfisch has created a vibrant soundtrack to the film, which tells us we all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In this case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM! —a streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam, courtesy of an ancient wizard. Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.

Mozart und Salieri - waren sie erbitterte Feinde oder respektierten sie sich gegenseitig als Komponisten? Wahrscheinlich ist eher das Letztere der Fall. Ein Ort, an dem die zwei Musiker - neben Wien - ihre Werke einem musikhungrigen Publikum präsentierten, war die böhmische Metropole Prag. Mit ein Grund für das Prague Sinfonia Orchestra unter der Leitung von Christian Benda, einen Querschnitt durch das sinfonische Schaffen der beiden Komponisten zu präsentieren. Neben zahlreichen Opern-Ouvertüren gibt es die komplette "Prager-" sowie die "Haffner-Sinfonie" von Mozart.

Boris Papandopulo has to be regarded as the most important 20th c. Croatian composer. His imposing musical oeuvre of more than 450 works reveals a multifaceted style: folklore, neoclassicism and neo-baroque as well as impressionistic and expressionistic idioms flow into his music. Most importantly, however, his works are full of optimism, vibrancy and captivating resiliency. His Piano Concerto No. 2 and the Sinfonietta form the ideal introduction to this artist - with more yet to be heard!

Ludwig Thuille’s life was shadowed by a certain tragic element – at least with hindsight. Firstly, it was not very long: he died of a heart attack when he was just 45, although he had “always been known as the model of indestructible vitality”, as music critic and friend Rudolf Louis reported, and secondly, a very close friendship might have become a somewhat suffocating burden: his friendship with Richard Strauss, a slightly younger man. Their very revealing and largely also entertaining correspondence, for instance, shows clearly how the older talent falls behind the younger wunderkind with time, and soon realises this fact himself. During the first years of their friendship, this naturally was not yet very obvious, and the early works by both men are actually similar in some respects, as is for example said of Thuille’s first piano quintet written during his study years. Biographer Friedrich Munter described it thus: „there is a dark, sometimes painfully pathetic, sometimes defiant and bold mood running through the work, and it is significant that the composer should choose to go back to this early work in his final mature masterpiece.” The masterpiece he refers to is the late quintet op. 20: This is where the wheel comes full circle.
