LAMB have announced details of their seventh studio album, THE SECRET OF LETTING GO, due for release on Cooking Vinyl on April 26, 2019. The Secret of Letting Go is all about the space between sounds. From album opener "Phosphorus'" minimalist harmonics to the dying choral embers of "One Hand Clapping"; through the snaking sub-bass drops that drive the title track and "Moonshine" and into the whirl and spin of "Deep Delirium" and the simple piano loops that help "Imperial Measures" float above you, there's space everywhere. Sometimes it's evocative of sun-drenched horizons, at others it is contemplative, reflective; occasionally the space is itchy and anticipatory, pointing towards moments of ecstatic abandon. Throughout the record though, it's the space that allows Lou Rhodes' superlunary voice to glide and soar gloriously to bridge the silences in-between. It's all of this together that makes The Secret of Letting Go such an utterly compelling return to form.

The soundtrack for the film The Hours (2002), with its all-star cast including Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman, has been one of Philip Glass' most popular works, with a BAFTA award in Britain having been a key step in spreading Glass' reputation beyond the U.S. Perhaps the task of writing specifically representational music helps him hone his style (see also his big operas of the 1970s and '80s). The music has also had a second life in Michael Riesman and Nico Muhly's piano version; in Muhly's case, you might argue for a degree of influence.

Two late and baleful tragedies by Euripides focus on the ill-starred daughter of the Greek King, Agamemnon. Will he sacrifice Iphigenia in order to secure fair winds for his voyage to Troy? In Aulis, the drama rages until she is spared. Having escaped to Tauris, Iphigenia finds herself compelled to kill her own brother before, once more, the fickle gods intervene. Gluck's operatic settings are very rarely staged together, but Pierre Audi's production makes a darkly compelling case for their dramatic unity. All the lead performers here are experienced exponents of Gluck, and together they present a powerfully idiomatic experience.

This is a wonderful collection of recorded songs and TV performances of the UK legend that is Cilla Black! Burt Bacharach praised her singing for the emotion she portrayed in many of his songs. Cilla's voice was, and still is, powerful and emotional. To this day she remains the biggest selling UK female singer of the 1960's. She has still sold more records in the UK than Madonna! Listen to this and you will understand why!

Four-CD, 80-song box set of Clark's '60s material contains all of her big U.S. and U.K. hits, numerous singles that were only hits in other countries (usually France), and a bunch of interesting covers, B-sides, and LP tracks, some quite rare. If you're enough of a fan to want more than what you'll find on the usual thorough hits anthology, but not enough of a fan to want everything she ever did, this is perfect. It's got all of the classics, serviceable (although not terribly extensive) liner notes, and a host of interesting items that aren't well-known.
