"Hello Big Man" is singer-songwriter Carly Simon's twelfth album, and eleventh studio album, released in 1983. The album was Simon's last for Warner Bros. Records (and for what became the Warner Music Group, having also spent time with Elektra Records), as it was a commercial disappointment upon release, despite a positive reception from critics. The album featured Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare on a number of tracks, including one Bob Marley cover. The title of the album is an allusion to the reply that Simon's mother, Andrea Simon, gave to her father, Richard Simon, when they first met. He said "hello little woman", and she replied "hello big man".

Julie London (born Nancy Gayle Peck; September 26, 1926 – October 18, 2000) was an American singer and actress, whose career spanned more than 40 years. Born in Santa Rosa, California to Vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and began her career as an actress. London's 35-year acting career began in film in 1944, and included roles as the female lead in numerous Westerns, co-starring with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958), and opposite Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-1950s, she signed a recording contract with the newly established Liberty Records, and released a total of 32 albums of pop and jazz standards during the 1950s and 1960s, with her signature song being "Cry Me a River", which she introduced in 1955.

Germany's CPO label specializes in intensive explorations of little-known repertory, and its efforts pay off with this highly enjoyable disc of chamber music from Telemann's era. Sebastian Bodinus is still lost in the miasma of history, known mostly through his music and not much even that way. These are not all "Quadri" (quartets) as promised by the back cover, but most of them are, and if you had to guess the composer you might think they were among Telemann's Quadri – innovative works for a mixed group of instruments with continuo.

Esoteric Recordings are pleased to issue the first ever release of the legendary 1972 "lost” second album self by Fields. When the first line-up of Rare Bird folded in early 1971, keyboard player Graham Field formed this outfit with bass player, vocalist and guitarist Alan Barry and King Crimson drummer Andy McCulloch. Although the band failed to emulate the commercial success of Field’s previous group, their 1971 debut album was a magnificent example of British Progressive Rock at its finest. Following the album’s release the band’s line-up changed with the departure of Alan Barry and the arrival of Frank Farrell from Supertramp.

A brilliant set of improvised music, beautifully recorded and with an extra track which was not included on the original LP. Definite spontaneous sounds from the great Albert Mangelsdorff – a set that has the trombonist working alongside the up-and-coming Japanese pianist Masahiko Sato, who also plays some ring modulator on the album! Sato's almost the driving force here – although that role might also go to drummer Allen Blairman, a player we don't know much at all, but who really pushes the group strongly forward from the bottom – as Sato serves up some of his most angular, inventive lines to date – and bassist Peter Warren shifts from bow to plucking, depending on the sonic needs of the moment. Mangelsdorff is great, as always – and as always, really knows how to step back when needed, then jump into the fray in just the right way.

The reputation of Wilhelm Friedemann Bach has taken a harder hit than almost any composer of his relative stature in history. Conventional wisdom has it he was an irresponsible drunk who died penniless and left his family in a state of desperation as not long after his father died he went out the back door of the European musical establishment, ensuring occupational undesirability for the rest of his life. Friedemann Bach was also the subject of a 1941 Nazi propaganda film that dovetailed his life story neatly in with that of Horst Wessel – the association has probably hurt him more than helped.
