Chick Corea took a break from his fusion group, Return to Forever, to record this slightly more jazz-oriented effort. Such players as saxophonist Joe Farrell, trombonist Bill Watrous, and bassist Eddie Gomez are on the date (as is vocalist Gayle Moran), but few of the tracks are all that memorable.

The songs on Catherine Britt’s seventh album were written in a daze of relief: the country singer, her mother, and her mother-in-law were all diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, and all made it into remission. The scare sent Britt into a new creative headspace, prompting her to set off in a caravan around Australia with her husband and new baby while putting together what she calls her most country album yet. “I’m feeling a little bit like I’ve gone back to my roots and where it all began,” she told the Australian. On “I’m Not Ready,” a spirited strummer built around a patchwork of harmonies, she grips on tight: “I’m not ready to close that door on life/I’m not ready to say goodbye.”

Let's face it: so many, perhaps too many, piano trio jazz CDs are released every month, and it's not every day when you find something special. But this CD - originally released in the Czech Republic and became a huge hit in Japan - has that special quality, the one that lets you know that it's a good record within the first 10 seconds. Pianist Jan Knop (b. 1972), who began to spell his name backwards as Najponk, is one of the greatest stars of his generation. He was connected to George Mraz (b. 1944), the most famous Czech bassist in the world, through drummer and jazz impressario Martin Sulc (b. 1961). For the majority of American listeners, Lulu's career began and ended with "To Sir with Love," the theme song to the 1967 box office hit, though she enjoyed considerably greater success in the United Kingdom, and not without reason. Lulu had a solid, spirited voice that could handle an admirable range of material, and she tended to get good songs that she made the most of with the assistance of some very talented studio help (John Paul Jones arranged much of the material on her 1969 set Lulu's Album).

East coasters Brenley MacEachern and Lisa MacIsaac have been working together and making music for 20 years now. Along the way, they’ve earned a number of prestigious including a Juno nomination, a Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Vocal Group Album of the Year and a Critic’s Choice Award from Country Music People’s Magazine. On top of growing radio play, they took home the Grand Prize in the 2010 Maxell John Lennon Songwriting Contest (voted on by a panel of distinguished artists including Elton John, Tim McGraw, Black Eyed Peas, Fergie, John Legend, Enrique Iglesias and Mary J.Blige).

Son of French icons Jacques Dutronc and Françoise Hardy, Thomas Dutronc fell in love with Gypsy jazz music during his teenage years, starting with Django Reinhardt's works. Gifted with impressive learning capacities, he began studying Gypsy guitar at the age of 18 and has since collaborated with a wide range of artists, from the jazz community with the likes of Bireli Lagrene but also including his father, mother, and Henri Salvador from the pop world. In 2007 he released his own LP of songs penned with both wit and humor, displaying a gentle voice (very close to his father's) and his many talents as both a songwriter and guitarist, achieving a refreshing blend that quickly found an audience and earned strong record sales that same year. In 2009, Dutronc won the Victoires de la Musique for original song of the year with "Comme un Manouche Sans Guitare" before releasing his second album, Demain!, in 2011. (Olivier Duboc, AMG)

Chick Corea presents his “musical dream,” a new composition “in the spirit of Mozart” – where jazz, Latin, and classical converge into a globally inspired concerto for jazz quintet and chamber orchestra. The Continents is performed by Corea with a hand-picked all-star orchestra including members of The Harlem Quartet and Imani Winds, among others – and conducted by Steven Mercurio at the Manhattan Center Studios in June 2011.

Tesla have announced a new studio album, Shock, that's due for release on March 8. Produced and co-written by Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen, the LP will be the eighth studio album of Tesla's career.

We really have to come up with a name for this stuff. You know, that sort of deconstructed fragmented pop, glitchy crumbling, fuzzed out ambient weirdness, everything blurry and buzzy and soft focus. Jeck, Tim Hecker, Fennesz, Machinefabriek, Jasper TX, and now Part Timer. It's another one of those sounds, the kind of sounds we can't ever get enough of, just like super hard ragga jungle or buzzy drone-y black metal, it's a sound that we are absolutely in love with. If we could figure out away to make these records go on forever and ever and ever we surely would (for now, the repeat button will have to suffice)…
