This collection of soundtrack music by the German-born film composer Hans Zimmer includes his first film score, A World Apart, as well as his co-written, club-influenced soundtrack for the award-winning My Beautiful Laundrette. A subtle, expressive composer, Zimmer makes good use of brooding, layered themes in pieces like "The Fruit Machine," while his music for The Island combines folk-themed segments with dramatic orchestral flourishes.

In February 2021, when public concerts had been cancelled for several months, the musicians of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne were able to meet behind closed doors on the stage of the Opéra de Lausanne in order to record this disc under the direction of Heinz Holliger. An album released in 2013 presented an earlier recording collaboration between the Bernese conductor and the Lausanne-based ensemble with two works by Schoenberg ( Verklärte Nacht and the Chamber Symphony No. 2 ) and an early piece by his pupil Anton Webern ( Langsamer Satz ). Nearly a decade later, the same performers are reunited and continue to highlight these two leading composers of the Second Viennese School.

For the last batch of our Iannis Xenakis retrospective, we have remastered important recordings from the late 60s that had never been re-issued since their original LP version. The works here conducted by Marius Constant include the Polytope de Montréal, composed for an installation Xenakis made in the French pavilion of the 1967 World Fair, including a sensational light show. It has never been recorded otherwise! Also included are the ballet Kraanerg, number-theory-inspired Syrmos, and mythological works Medea (also an absolute premiere) and Oresteia (probably his stage masterpiece).

2015 collection. Big Beat makes a long overdue foray back into the copious vaults of maverick pop personage Gary S Paxton, this time focusing on late 60s production pop. The workaholic engineer/arranger/producer left a tremendous cache of such material in his vault, all bearing his unique and idiosyncratic trademark of quality. Happy Lovin' Time celebrates this overlooked aspect of Paxton's capabilities, with a remarkable selection of his production work in the genre between 1966 and 1970. Most tracks employ the same crack session team that appeared on Paxton-engineered hits by the Association, Tommy Roe and others and some feature familiar names. Among Paxton's collaborators was popmeister Curt Boettcher, who is showcased on here on two rare demos. Paxton also produced the influential vocal quartet the Four Freshmen, dragging them into the 60s with records such as the groovy 'Nowhere To Go. ' The producer's secret weapon in the later 1960s was writer Kenny Johnson, who contributed a wealth of strong material to visiting acts including the Canadian groups the Jay Bees, New Wing and Privilege, as well as his own recordings under such various guises as the Bogart Cult, Homogenized Dirt and Bakersfield Poppy Pickers. Detailed liner notes by compiler Alec Palao explain the manner in which much of the contents came to be recorded, and overall, Happy Lovin' Time is a fun-filled, eminently listenable package that will delight any fan of 60s sunshine pop.

Probably the most popular release of Marley live, this concert has been newly remastered! This June 1977 concert at London's Rainbow Theater captures the recently reconfigured Wailers ending a European tour to promote the Exodus album. The rare performances of "Trenchtown Rock," "Rebel Music," and "Crazy Baldhead" from the earlier Wailers repertoire are the treasures of this collection, but the whole thing is simply a "must-have".

Born Caroline Catharina Müller in the Netherlands, she moved with her family to Germany in the late '70s. In 1980, she became a member of the girl quartet Optimal, who issued two singles. During one of the band's concerts in Hamburg, she was approached by songwriter/producer Dieter Bohlen who had just taken the continental charts by storm with his duo Modern Talking…

Tash Sultana has released the special album MTV Unplugged, Live in Melbourne, recorded during one of the city’s most intense periods of pandemic lockdown.

CD-reissue of the amazing '75 debut LP by this well-known group that blended progressive, symphonic and flamenco roots. The album also features the hit 'Abre La Puerta'. This ethnic music comes from Andalusia where the poor gypsies sublimated their misery into music, often with very emotional results. The songs on 'El Patio' deliver a unique tension between the flamenco elements and the electric guitar and keyboards. This CD-version includes four previously unissued live cuts.

Taking their name from a type of cooked pudding, the electronic duo Blancmange interlaced the arty, exotic dance rhythms of Talking Heads with the quirky melodrama of early-'80s British synth pop. Consisting of Neil Arthur (vocals, guitar) and Stephen Luscombe (keyboards), Blancmange formed in London, England in the late '70s. Originally called L360, Blancmange received immediate recognition when they sent the song "Sad Day" to DJ Stevo, who added it to a compilation LP of then-unsigned new wave groups, including future alternative icons like Depeche Mode and Soft Cell. Drummer Laurence Stevens was a member of the band for a short while, but they eventually replaced him with a drum machine…
