A PRETTY SONG is Teensville's twelfth offering in their acclaimed Sunshine, Soft & Studio Pop compact disc series. Featuring an array of 31 never-before-on-CD cuts spanning the era 1966-1972, the disc highlights the neglected side of well produced but non-hit commercial material.

Billy Strayhorn's music has been an essential part of DiMartin's repertoire since the beginning of his forty-five year professional music career. He recalls, "My first encounter with Strayhorn's music was through an older cousin who gave me a recording of Chet Baker and Russ Freeman's version of Lush Life and requested that I learn the tune." DiMartino was just 15 years old at the time (ironically, Strayhorn's age when he wrote the piece0> John has been entranced with the composer's music ever since.

ESP-Disk' has a little bit of history with Argentina – we issued Gato Barbieri's first international release, and our Steve Lacy album was recorded there – so we couldn't resist putting out this compilation of 2012-17 recordings (most previously unreleased) from the Buenos Aires scene. In his liner notes, compiler Jason Weiss writes, "In June 1966, just as General Juan Carlos Onganía was leading a military coup d’état, Steve Lacy’s quartet arrived in Buenos Aires: not exactly safe harbor for free jazz. Despite opposition the group gained a small following, appearing on television, at a museum, in private homes, but they couldn’t earn enough for their return flights. When the quartet—Lacy, Enrico Rava, Johnny Dyani, Louis Moholo, a supergroup in retrospect—played at the venerable Instituto di Tella, whose experimental music center was directed by the composer Alberto Ginastera, Lacy instructed the group to do two free improvised sets of twenty minutes each; it proved to be their only document of the whole adventure, released by ESP the following year as The Forest and the Zoo."

Certainly not the "darkest" the Cure would eventually get, Faith is, as represented by the cover art, one of the most "gray" records out there. Melancholy and despondent (the feel of funerals and old churches just oozes from this record) without the anger that would over take Pornography, Faith comes off as not just a collection of songs, but as a full piece. "The Holy Hour," "All Cats Are Grey," and the spectacular "Faith" are slow atmospheric pieces that take the softer elements from Seventeen Seconds, and - when sidled up next to faster tracks like the single "Primary" and "Doubt" - paint an overall picture of the ups and downs contained within a greater depressive period. But it's not all gloomy keyboards and minimalist percussion, Faith is also a milestone for Robert Smith lyrically, branching out into questions of faith and spirituality he never quite touched on so well ever again…

Singer/songwriter Melody Gardot's first full-length concert album, 2018's Live in Europe, is a gorgeously produced collection showcasing her emotive vocals in an organic, deeply atmospheric concert framework. Recorded at a series of shows between 2012 and 2016, the album finds the singer backed by her adept touring ensemble; a dynamic band replete with guitars, horns, drums, and percussion. Gardot curated the album herself, and included such longtime fan favorites as "Baby I'm a Fool," "Les Etoiles, "My One and Only Thrill," "Who Will Comfort Me," and more. Also spotlighted is her buoyant rendition of the classic standard "Over the Rainbow." These are warm, acoustic and electric performances that make the most of Gardot's yearning, poetic style.

Considered by many to be the second last good Grobschnitt album before the departure of Eroc. In fact consciously Grobschnitt elected after "Merry Go Round" to stop recording their signature fairytale - like music and move more in the spirit of the '80's. Considering this was one of the later Grobschnitt albums it contains many of their most beloved melodies. "Merry-Go-Round" contains everything that you would expect with great drumming - bass - guitar interplay with fairytale-like keyboards and atmospheres. Songs are exceptionally well written and performed and if you are a completist then you can snag Repetroire's re-mastered version with 2 bonus tracks.
