This album dedicates to lost stories of famous science fiction writer Kilgore Trout. "Space-psych outfit from Russia deliver once again, serving up a delicious auditory mix. There are elements of prog, classical, and even gypsy jazz. Instrumentation is the usual: guitars, bass, drums, and also saz, mandoline, saxes, flute, synthesizers, recorder and violin."

Sada is the second studio collaboration between Spanish guitarist Ángel Ontalva and beloved Russian space-prog-jazz-psych geniuses Vespero. The two previously broke ground on 2018’s ‘Carta Marina,’ which in turn led to the live album ‘Sea Orm Liventure’ before this latest work. Clearly, they have a good thing going, and they bring out the best in each other. I strongly recommend ALL of these albums. Ontalva and Vespero make a superb combination. Their works - all instrumental - remind me a great deal of Mahavishnu Orchestra. So kindle your inner mounting flame and come along for the ride.

The companion piece to The Flying Teapot, Angel's Egg is not your usual progressive rock album. Very quirky, with many, mostly brief compositions, the album is a tad less spacy than Teapot, with just a few psychedelic-inspired lyrics, and it's very technically adept. Angel's Egg opens with a true space rock cut (one of the few on the album), filled with the usual Gilli Smyth space whispering and Daevid Allen voicings, then leads into the cleverly titled "Sold to the Highest Buddha," with Steve Hillage and Didier Malherbe prominent figures. The instrumental "Castle in the Clouds" finds Hillage coming into his own, with a sound identical to his solo work. "Givin' My Love to You" sounds like a bar song, with no music and a cluster of seemingly drunken fellas trying to sing. The instrumental "Flute Salad" gives way to "Oily Way," a showcase for Malherbe's jazzy flute…

Glastonbury Fayre is a triple album released in 1972, comprising performances by acts who had appeared at the Glastonbury Festival in 1971 (see Festival line-up 1971) and others. The album came in a fold-out poster sleeve inside a printed PVC outer sleeve, with a 32-page illustrated booklet, a poster sheet and a fold-out Silver Pyramid, all designed by Barney Bubbles. Although most of the performances are live, not all were recorded at the Festival. The track contributed by Grateful Dead (titled "Dark Star….bury" for this compilation) is a version of "Dark Star" recorded at the Empire Pool, Wembley, London, on 8 April 1972 (during the band's Europe '72 tour). The group was widely rumoured to be due to appear at the Festival but did not. Studio demo recordings were contributed by Marc Bolan and Pete Townshend, who did not appear at the event, and by David Bowie, who did.

Donald Smith "Don" Airey has been the keyboardist in the rock band Deep Purple since 2002, succeeding Jon Lord. He has had a long and productive career, playing with such acts as Gary Moore, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, Whitesnake, Saxon, Wishbone Ash, Steve Vai, Colosseum II, Ten, Sinner, Michael Schenker, Rainbow, Empire, Thin Lizzy, Brian May, Divlje jagode and Living Loud. He has also worked with Andrew Lloyd Webber. A Light In The Sky, is his second solo record. Airey has gathered together a different set of collaborators (though Laurence Cottle of Sting/Eric Clapton/Brian Eno/Bill Bruford fame once again contributes precision bass-playing), though naturally Don provides the record's central creative thrust an entertaining mixture of instrumental and vocal songs, from the Bladerunner-style Ripples In The Fabric Of Time to the hook-laden hard rock of Shooting Star.

Prog Presents: Discovering Stickman Records is a digital compilation introducing the label. Stickman Records is a long-running independent record label based in Hamburg, Germany. Founded in 1994 by Rolf and Jeannette Gustavus, the label originally focused on releasing and promoting records from the Norwegian band Motorpsycho, but quite quickly picked up steam as a vibrant and undefinable force in the European rock underground. In recent years, the label has honed in on psychedelic, progressive and stoner rock as its main genre touchstones, with longterm bands such as Elder (whose frontman Nicholas DiSalvo also works at the label), King Buffalo, Papir and Slomosa setting the pace for much of what trickles down to the rest of the scene. 30 years into its existence, Stickman remains an enigma in the indie landscape and its logo mark of exceptional quality.

Despite being renowned in certain parts of the world (especially in Italy and their hometown of Paris), the space-age outfit Rockets remains largely obscure – even though they arrived on the scene at almost he same exact time as Kraftwerk and prefaced Devo by several years. The multi-membered outfit originally formed in 1972, under the name Crystal, performing on-stage in their regular street clothes. But by 1974, Crystal had evolved into Rocket Men, issuing a debut self-titled single, while its members began to assume the identities of aliens; complete with silver makeup covering their skin, grey contact lenses, space suits, and bald heads.

Journey to the Centre of the Eye is the debut album from English progressive rock band Nektar that came out in November 1971. Though formally divided into 13 tracks, the entire album consists of a single continuous piece of music, with some musical themes which are repeated throughout the work. Because of its narrative nature, it has been called a rock opera and/or dense concept album. The story follows an astronaut who, while on a voyage to Saturn, encounters aliens who take him to their galaxy, where he is suffused with knowledge and wisdom. It is usually interpreted as a commentary on the nuclear arms race.

Record Store Day 2025. Voyager 1 can reasonably be described as a “pseudo-bootleg” album because it was a band-endorsed, official recording designed to look like an unofficial pirate release. This rare and highly prized live album was originally issued on vinyl in small quantity in 1993, with used copies going for upwards of $500! Made to introduce the band to the American market via Virgin’s then-newly inaugurated US ‘indie’ label, Vernon Yard Recordings, the music it presented was recorded in concert in London and New York during 1992 and released before the debut album, A Storm In Heaven, the following year.

If remembered at all today, it is probably thanks to their silly astronaut costumes, but in the '60s the Spotnicks were one of the most successful instrumental rock groups, alongside the Shadows and the Ventures. Their very specific sound had more in common with the Shadows, being clean and intentionally gentle. It originated from their first primitive demo recordings, but the record company liked it and, being plastic and twangy, it was promoted as a space sound. That sound was already outdated in the late '60s, but that didn't stop the group from having big successes throughout the decade. In the '70s the sound was definitely antiquated, but like the Ventures, the Spotnicks found reliable audiences in Japan and Germany, as well as cult and nostalgia followings around the world.
