Joan Baez's album If I Wrote You: Favorite Songs By Some Of My Favorite Songwriters is a collection of songs by artists she admires, showcasing her ability to interpret and breathe new life into their work.

Underpinning their adventurous and inquisitive spirits is a sense of real feeling, never shying from the difficult and unsettling moments, but embracing the breadth of human experiences that live in communication with the constraints of each project.

CHICAGO S FINAL PERFORMANCE WITH GUITAR LEGEND TERRY KATH NASSAU COLISEUM, 1977 Until his untimely death on January 23rd 1978, eight months after the concert featured on this 2 CD set, Terry Kath had been Chicago s lead guitarist, having been with the band since their formation as Chicago Transit Authority, in 1967. Jimi Hendrix once told saxophonist Walter Parazaider, "Jeez, your horn players are like one set of lungs and your guitar player is better than me." Kath had to play both lead and rhythm with Chicago, in addition to singing on certain tracks, and make it sound as strong and powerful in front of Chicago s prominent horn section. In this, he did exceedingly well. This show opens with Kath s Mississippi Delta City Blues , originally found on Chicago XI. The show was performed on May 20, 1977 at The Nassau Coliseum on Long Island. At the time up and coming super-reporter Geraldo Rivera hosted an annual charity raising event entitled The One to One Telethon , to raise money to update and/or eradicate the gloomy insane asylums that were mistreating mentally challenged individuals in NYC back then. 1977 s One to One Telethon featured this concert by Chicago. Two sets with a break in the middle. The concert was broadcast live on FM radio - WLIR 92.7 in the greater New York area.

This repertoire features early BBC broadcasts from the Peter Green-era blues-rock lineup, including members such as Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer.

Following the disbandment of The Clash in the mid-1980s, for almost a decade (a period which Strummer himself described as the ‘wilderness years’) not much occurred in Joe Strummer’s career. A handful of appearances in certain cult movies was augmented by some soundtrack work, and Joe even joined The Pogues for a year. But in the mid-to-late 1990s, Strummer gathered top-flight musicians into a backing band he called The Mescaleros. Strummer and the band signed with Mercury Records, and released their first album in 1999, Rock Art and the X-Ray Style. A tour of England, Europe, and North America soon followed. Joe was later to comment; ‘This is my Indian summer … I learnt that fame is an illusion and everything about it is just a joke. I'm far more dangerous now, because I don't care at all’.

Nonesuch Records releases About Ghosts by Brooklyn-based guitarist, composer, and MacArthur fellowMary Halvorson on June 13, 2025. The album features eight new compositions by Halvorson, performed with her sextet Amaryllis, the improvisatory band that also was featured on her critically praised albums Amaryllis, Belladonna, and Cloudward. Amaryllis comprises Halvorson, Patricia Brennan (vibraphone), Nick Dunston (bass), Tomas Fujiwara (drums), Jacob Garchik (trombone), and Adam O’Farrill (trumpet). Saxophonists Immanuel Wilkins and Brian Settles join the ensemble on five tunes. Halvorson’s last three records were named Jazz Album of the Year in DownBeat’s annual Critics Poll, where she was also named Guitarist of the Year in 2023 and 2024.

Issued in a standard (non-gatefold) sleeve with printed inner sleeves largely replicating the 1991 original design. Inner sleeves include thumbnail images based on the UK single artwork for each track. These images are based on the single artwork rather than direct reproductions. The image used for "DJ Culture" is derived from the original single sleeve, though not presented in its full release layout. "Was It Worth It?"- also a new single at the time - was not represented. This reissue retains the original 1991 inner sleeve design and does not introduce any new artwork. Unlike the original edition, this release includes UK chart positions for all tracks, including "DJ Culture" and "Was It Worth It?".

Beethoven's "Hammerklavier" sonata is a formidable challenge for any pianist. Making his Deutsche Grammophon debut, "stunningly gifted" (Gramophone) Nobuyuki Tsujii - no stranger to challenges - has chosen this technically and intellectually demanding work, which brought him victory in the prestigious Van Cliburn Competition. Nobu, as he is lovingly known, feels a personal affinity for Beethoven and here also savors the composer's intimate, lyrical side in Liszt's affectionate transcription of the song cycle, An die ferne Geliebte.

Charles Dieupart’s harpsichord “Suittes” published in 1701 represent the first time a keyboard suite was treated as a form in itself, uniformly structured with a set number of movements, all opening with a designated “overture”. Though they were highly esteemed throughout the 18th century (Bach used the gigue of the second suite for the opening movement of his first English Suite) and continue to receive excellent recordings today, listening reveals that their historical importance far outweighs their musical interest. While certainly a consummate technician, Dieupart lacked the style and originality that other more gifted composers (Rameau, the Couperins, Froberger, Handel, Bach) brought to the dances of their suites. If ever a quintessential musical example were needed to demonstrate that whoever has the first word doesn’t necessarily make the most difference, this is it.
