Released in 1981 by Epic Records, this self-titled European release serves as an incredible compressed presentation of the American hard rock icons Heart, fronted by the legendary sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson. Compiled originally from their extensive 1980 double-album collection, this specific ten-track configuration provides an exceptional overview of the group's transition from their classic seventies arena acoustic-rock blend into the polished, high-energy sonic landscapes of the early eighties. The album features iconic studio staples such as the thunderous guitar riffs of Barracuda, the groovy rhythms of Straight On, and the delicate acoustic phrasing of Dog & Butterfly, alongside an infectious studio cover of Tell It Like It Is. Balanced by blistering, highly energetic live performances recorded in late 1980—including a raw rendition of Led Zeppelin's Rock And Roll and a raucous Beatles medley—this album is a perfect testament to the band's phenomenal live power and enduring studio brilliance.

Since the mid-'90s, Blue Öyster Cult have had their catalog pillaged for hits collections on almost a yearly basis, so the appearance of yet another such beast isn't the welcome return of an old friend that it should be. True, there was a time when a greatest-hits collection was sorely needed, but the double-CD set Workshop of the Telescopes took care of that in 1995, and if that was too massive a retrospective, there was 2000's single-disc Don't Fear the Reaper: The Best of Blue Öyster Cult. Add to those a number of re-recordings and misleadingly packaged live collections and it's hard to justify The Essential Blue Oyster Cult. However, if you look at the collection saga of Blue Öyster Cult as a perfecting of the formula a thinning of the herd then Essential starts to prove its worth as a lean machine all killer, no filler. No BOC collection can stand without their biggest acknowledged hits, "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" and "Burnin' for You," and both of those are here. So is the over-the-top madness of "Godzilla" and the cult hit yes, cult, BOC is a band whose fan base is so disparate there are mainstream and underground fans "E.T.I. (Extra Terrestrial Intelligence)," which somehow slipped by the previous single-disc collection. Others, like "Veterans of Psychic Wars" and "Harvester of Eyes," carry equal heft and help Essential live up to its name.

    Genre: Glam, Hard Rock

Cherry Pie is the breakthrough second studio album by American hard rock band Warrant, released in 1990 through CBS/Sony Group Inc. The album became one of the defining releases of the glam metal era, combining infectious hard rock riffs, flashy guitar work, melodic hooks, and power ballads with the larger-than-life attitude that dominated late-1980s and early-1990s rock music. Led by frontman Jani Lane’s charismatic vocals and songwriting, the record balances party anthems with emotionally driven ballads and darker storytelling elements. The title track “Cherry Pie” became the band’s signature hit thanks to its energetic chorus and MTV popularity, while songs such as “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” and “I Saw Red” revealed a more mature and melodic side of the group. Musically, the album features powerful guitar solos, polished production, and catchy choruses designed for arena rock audiences. The inclusion of both high-energy rockers and heartfelt acoustic-driven moments helped the album achieve major commercial success and solidified Warrant’s place within the glam metal movement. Cherry Pie remains a classic release for fans of melodic hard rock and late-1980s hair metal culture.

Cheap Trick may no longer be playing the stadiums that the group's monumental talent surely warrants, but they do have one of the most loyal cult followings in all rock & roll. Thus, when Epic Records decided to release a four-disc box set celebrating the quartet's 20th anniversary with the label, someone there was smart enough to let the band put together a collection for the collectors. Which means 32 of the 64 tracks here are previously unreleased, including many live cover tunes (Beatles, Velvet Underground), demo takes, and a few things only a fan would want. Some hits are here (including "Surrender"), but, as a good example, there's no "He's a Whore," which Cheap Trick probably figured their fans should already own.

Boston is one of the best-selling albums of all time, and deservedly so. Because of the rise of disco and punk, FM rock radio seemed all but dead until the rise of acts like Boston, Tom Petty, and Bruce Springsteen. Nearly every song on Boston's debut album could still be heard on classic rock radio decades later due to the strong vocals of Brad Delp and unique guitar sound of Tom Scholz. Tom Scholz, who wrote most of the songs, was a studio wizard and used self-designed equipment such as 12-track recording devices to come up with an anthemic "arena rock" sound before the term was even coined. The sound was hard rock, but the layered melodies and harmonics reveal the work of a master craftsman. While much has been written about the sound of the album, the lyrics are often overlooked…

The short lived New England originally formed around the Boston area in the late 1970s, featuring John Fannon on guitar and lead vocals, Jimmy Waldo on keyboards, Hirsh Gardner on drums and Gary Shea on bass guitar. After being discovered by famed KISS manager Bill Aucoin, their self-titled debut was issued by Infinity Records in 1979, and produced by KISS’s Paul Stanley, produced along with famed Queen, Asia and Journey producer Mike Stone. The tracks ‘Hello, Hello, Hello’ (UK No. 69) and ‘Don’t Ever Wanna Lose Ya’ (US No. 40) began to pick up plenty of airplay on AOR radio in the States as the band headed out on a major arena tour opening for KISS. Switching to Elektra Records, New England followed their debut in 1980 with “Explorer Suite”, this time co-produced by Mike Stone with singer and principle songwriter, John Fannon. The title track, plus ‘Livin’ In The Eighties’ were released as singles, but didn’t quite manage to capitalise on the airplay from the first LP. “Walking Wild”, their third and final album, also for Elektra, was released in 1981 and produced by Todd Rundgren. With ‘Don’t Ever Let Me Go’, ‘DDT’ and ‘Get It Up’ released as singles, the album had a more harder rocking approach, but unfortunately the band split up shortly after its release, in 1982.

Few bands embodied the pure excess of the '70s like Queen. Embracing the exaggerated pomp of progressive rock and heavy metal, as well as vaudevillian music hall, the British quartet delved deeply into camp and bombast, creating a huge, mock-operatic sound with layered guitars and overdubbed vocals. Queen's music was a bizarre yet highly accessible fusion of the macho and the fey. For years, their albums boasted the motto "no synthesizers were used on this record," signaling their allegiance with the legions of post-Led Zeppelin hard rock bands. In The Many Faces of Queen we will delve into the inner world of the legendary British foursome including their early recordings, collaborations and their fantastic repertoire. With remastered sound and fantastic artwork, The Many Faces Of Queen is an essential addition to your rock music collection. Also, remember that the album is not available on any streaming platform.
