Although included in Spain part in most or all catalogues, Errobi was actually from the French Part of the Basque Country. Errobi was one of the longer-lasting of those basque folk groups and certainly the most adventurous or at least the widest-spectrummed.
Errobi's third album is a live one, but offering a selection of tracks from their first two albums, but rocking them up also. Although sonically imperfect (feedbacks and such), this album should give you an idea of what sounded Errobi in their earlier stages, with a more traditional folk rock sound than Ameritsen Bidea. Most tracks have enough progressive qualities to be quite charming and some are dramatic enough to describe the Basque fight for freedom. Musically , their sound is not that far away from Italian groups (singing-wise) or an English folk tinged with Iberic touches.

Just when you thought you'd heard it all, along comes a jazz bagpipe player. Make no mistake folks, this is more than a joke - whatever you might think, the cat can play. At first it sounds like some sort of weird organ, but a couple of minutes later you can't mistake it for anything but what it is. Like an organ, though, the bagpipe turns out to be remarkably suited for jazz. With little effort, one man can make an absolute ocean of sound. The groove here is nothing special, a solid soul-jazz feeling. Side one is all bagpipe. Side two is the leader on a number of different instruments. A talented fellow.

Crows An Wra is the 1st in a 3 album collection of free form psychedelic inspired soundscapes and ambient pieces written in an experimental live flow using various studio exotica. Unique , colourfull with hidden layers and worlds of sound this music was written for deep immersive headphone listeners and people who like to float in mind space.

Though short-lived, Holy Moses came up with one of the most enduring hard rock one-offs of the the early 70s, packed with strong songs and blazing guitar parts by Ted Spelios, whose playing is said to have stunned the young Bruce Springsteen. Produced by Kim King (Lothar and the Hand People) and Mike Esposito (the Blues Magoos), and recorded at Jimi Hendrix’s legendary Electric Lady studio in New York, the album soon vanished on release in 1971, but its cult reputation has grown steadily ever since.

Conducting this all-Elgar programme is Sakari Oramo, the Finnish conductor who has been all but adopted by English music-lovers and orchestras - for ten years he was music director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and since 2013 he holds the post as chief conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

With this recording, the Purcell Quartet reach the mid-point in their six-part series of chamber music based on La Jolla, and although this CD is devoted to Geminiani, the only work on that tune is, in fact, his concerto grosso arrangement of Corelli's variations for violin (Op. 5 No. 12). In addition, they have chosen the G minor Concerto grosso (distinguished by Geminiani's remarkable concertino viola part, played to good effect by Alan George), two of Geminiani's original solo sonatas (giving Catherine Mackintosh and Elizabeth Wallfisch moments in which to shine) and trio arrangements of two of his violin sonatas.

We are keeping up our exploration of the keyboardist Wayne Marshall’s discography with his first solo album for EMI, a blaring collection of organ showpieces including a transcription of Saint-Saëns’ Danse macabre, the Toccata and Pontifical March by Widor, Bach’s famous Toccata in D (which Marshall’s rendition is a big streaming hit). A substantial part of this album (Dupré, Schmidt, Vierne…) is made available digitally for the first time. It is performed on a radiant instrument built by Harrison & Harrison in 1962 for the new St Michael’s cathedral of Coventry.

Somewhat overlooked in the late 20th-century for being labelled as academic, the music of Vincent d’Indy has been revived by the untiring trailblazer of Romantic French music Michel Plasson. Far less renowned than his first symphony “On a French Mountain Air”, the second has been rarely recorded but has plenty of charm and will please the César Franck lovers, whose much of its inspiration draws from.
