After having listened to its first eponymous album, published three years later on the Musea label, it's hard to believe this is a first work! Fully mature and personal, the music displayed by this current Norwegian band is without any doubt in the same vein as other Scandinavian School bands like Anekdoten, Anglagard and Landberk: influences inherited from King Crimson, an intimate sadness (Mellotron) and a dark romanticism… At times, one could imagine that, if Camel was to be born close to the Arctic Polar Circle, it would sound like this. Erroll Garner's first album for Mercury Records, The Original "Misty" from the Piano Virtuoso, is a lovely, swinging record that spotlights his light, sophisticated style. Supported by bassist Wyatt Ruther, drummer Eugene "Fats" Heard and conga player Candido Camero, Garner swings a number of standards - "You Are My Sunshine," "I've Got the World on a String," "Misty" - performing all of them in true style. It's a wonderful record from the pianist's prime.
