Peter Hammill first came to prominence as the founder member and voice of the legendary progressive rock group Van der Graaf Generator. Alongside his work with Van der Graaf Generator, Peter Hammill has enjoyed a long career as an innovative and ground-breaking solo artist. Beginning with his first solo album 'Fool's Mate' in 1971, Peter recorded a series of acclaimed albums for both Charisma Records and Virgin Records covering a wide range of moods, but all undeniably and uniquely original and ground-breaking. Peter Hammill's work has been hailed by musicians such as John Lydon and David Bowie who expressed their admiration for his albums and his song writing. Duncan Browne's self-titled second album plays like a direct sequel to his debut long-player, Give Me Take You; he uses the same acoustic guitar and writes in a similar idiom, especially on tracks like "Country Song" and "The Martlet." Indeed, apart from the fact that it's generally better recorded, most of Duncan Browne could easily have slotted into the earlier album; the only exceptions are the more elaborately produced songs, such as "Ragged Rain Life," with its electric guitar sound, the keyboard-embellished "Babe Rainbow," and the bluesier, Dylan-esque "Journey," which was a substantial hit in England. Browne's style elsewhere on the record is unique unto himself, built around hauntingly beautiful melodies, mostly in a folk idiom, with some choice results, including the exquisite "Over the Reef" and "My Old Friends"…

In 1990, after almost a decade's absence from the new-release lists and an even longer time away from the charts, Dusty Springfield re-emerged with Reputation. A partial collaboration with the Pet Shop Boys, it proved to be her most satisfying record in 15 years and sold better than anything that she'd released since the '60s. Many, Greg Lake included, tend to sell this album short and that is a mistake: this is a well-crafted album on which Lake relies more on melody than he did on his debut. A few of the heavier numbers, such as the title track, are reminiscent of Greg Lake, but it's the ballads that set this album apart. Lake shows why - as heard on the powerful and complex music of the ELP years - it was the ballads that always seemed to fare best commercially…

With DANCE - we were celebrating life and the new chance. Dance - that's one of the styles of music I haven't touched previously, and that was always present in my life. I guess I always wanted to make that connection - between the guitar and the dance song. There's only a few dance tracks on the record ("Dance To The Rhythm" "Sho Nuff") but I wanted to go into those and tastefully fit guitar, as usually there's none in similar songs.I don't think it was done before, and certainly not much. There's a fantastic blues track 'Dwell On The Feeling' as well as a pop track 'Hurt So Good'. Timeless lyrics and haunting tribal groove on 'Sisters and Brothers' and smooth and vibe-y on 'California Chase' with a powerful message that the skid row in LA is sometimes one miss-step away, and that no one should be homeless.
