Legacy’s The Classic Albums Collection 1974-1983 should provide endless hours of arena/prog/AOR-pop bliss for fans of Kansas, as it features ten of the band’s career-defining albums, including an expanded edition of the live album Two for the Show. Each studio album (Kansas, Song for America, Masque, Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, Monolith, Audio Visions, Vinyl Confessions, and Drastic Measures) has been remastered and peppered with bonus cuts, and all of the original album artwork has been lovingly reproduced. Kansas is an American rock band that became popular in the 1970s initially on album-oriented rock charts and later with hit singles such as "Carry On Wayward Son" and "Dust in the Wind". The band has produced nine gold albums, three multi-platinum albums (Leftoverture 6x, Point of Know Return 4x, The Best of Kansas 4x), one other platinum studio album (Monolith), one platinum live double album (Two for the Show), and a million-selling single, "Dust in the Wind".

By now, the story behind the reunion which begat CPR is well known. David Crosby, while awaiting a life-saving liver transplant, was found by keyboardist James Raymond, whom Crosby had given up for adoption years before. This would just be great People magazine rock & roll fodder if not for the great fortune that Raymond is an incredible keyboardist whose harmonies blend in sweetly with his legendary dad's. Veteran Jeff Pevar's crack guitar work once again helps drive these provocative pop/rock tunes, particularly on the few more aggressive tracks like "Katie Did"; elsewhere, he's a little more restrained on acoustic, and Raymond's blues-influenced keyboard and piano playing dominated behind the powerful vocals.

On July 7 legendary rock vocalist Graham Bonnet released a new live album and home video captured during his acclaimed performance at Frontiers Rock Festival III in Trezzo (Milan), Italy) on April 24, 2016. Accompanied by a stellar band, featuring founding member Beth-Ami Heavenstone on bass, South American guitar sensation Conrado Pesinato on lead guitar, and Mark Zonder (known for his work with WARLORD and FATES WARNING) on drums, Bonnet masterfully delivered a thrilling "best-of" set which included songs from his stints with bands such as RAINBOW, MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP, ALCATRAZZ, IMPELLITTERI, and, of course, his solo material too.

All we know about the mysterious Giovanni Antonio Pandolfi Meali–as his full name runs–is that he "flourished" at the court of Innsbruck between 1660 and 1669. And we probably wouldn't know even that, save for the fact that two sets of violin sonatas, designated Op. 3 and Op. 4, respectively, and dating from 1660, have somehow survived to the present day. Anyone familiar with the music of this period will realize just what a treasure these works potentially represent, for this was the moment of the emergence of the first great school of violin playing in Italy and Austria, typified by the dazzling music of Biber and his Salzburg contemporaries.

La Clemenza di Tito can be rather bloodless, but in this instance an elegant, vocally impeccable cast makes up for much of the lack of drama in John Pritchard’s conducting. Werner Hollweg’s pingy tenor cuts through the orchestra brilliantly, and he uses his voice very well. Teresa Cahill and Anne Howells are an attractive-sounding pair as the young lovers, and Robert Lloyd is typically strong as Publio. The honors here go to Yvonne Minton’s anguished, beautifully accurate Sesto, capturing an often under-valued mezzo in one of her best roles. Janet Baker is Vitella, bringing fire and passion to her melodramatic utterances and immaculate singing to a very challenging role. The sound is excellent.

This remarkable program brings together three late works by Ludwig van Beethoven in which the Fugue plays an essential and pivotal part. Beethoven, renowned as a revolutionary, approached the fugue with both reverence and innovation. Especially in his later works he used the form to bridge the classical and romantic eras, transcending traditional boundaries, and infusing the fugue structure with dramatic intensity and emotional depth.

In February 2021 Eric Clapton's live shows at The Royal Albert Hall were cancelled due to the global pandemic. Determined to play, he brought his band together in the English countryside. In the absence of a live audience, he decided to record the performances. This release is the culmination of their sessions together at Cowdray House, West Sussex, England. The composer Viktor Ullmann (1898-1944) is representative of many musicians and composers, most of them with Jewish roots, who lost their lives in the Nazis' extermination camps. To mark this 75th liberation anniversary, the pianist Annika Treutler has devoted her new release to proscribed music. To musicians and composers like Viktor Ullmann, Bohuslav Martinu, Pavel Haas and many more: none of whom ever had the opportunity to fully develop their creativity because they were barred from pursuing their artistic careers in freedom.
