November’s debut album is an excellent piece of vintage rock and an essential source of inspiration for the contemporary breed of homologous acts.
If the 21st century vintage rock revival has succeeded in anything, it’s that it proved the genre’s great appeal over a much younger audience. On a later stage, the quality of contemporary bands prompted new fans to dig deep and search for their primary sources of inspiration, while older fans started to dust their old vinyls and take their ‘70s trousers out of the closet to see if they still fit in them. Above all countries, Sweden has warmly embraced vintage and progressive rock, ever since its atypical birth during the late ‘60s/early ‘70s…

For his debut recording, Australian pianist Calvin Abdiel presents three technically complex piano works by three Romantic composers. All works are based on the theme/variation form. For Schumann's fiendishly challenging Etudes symphoniques, Calvin adds his own interpolated sequence of the posthumous variations. The equally demanding Liszt showpiece based around three melodies from Mozart's Don Giovanni, and the recital concludes with the near 'unplayable' Paganini Variations of Brahms, which Clara Schumann referred as the 'Witch's Variations'.

Petros Petridis was one of the leading composers of the Greek National School. In Saint Paul he sought to combine the polyphonic approach of Byzantine music with the form of the oratorio. The libretto follows the Acts of the Apostles with fourteen chorales forming a connecting arc in the divine drama. Expressive originality – both elegiac and joyful – is a feature of Symphony No. 1 ‘ Hellenic ’, and the Kleft Dances , part of a discarded symphony, show Petridis’s personal stamp. Conductor Byron Fidetzis, whose recording of Petridis’s Requiem (Naxos 8.574354-55) was hailed as ‘a triumph all round’ by Gramophone , has prepared definitive editions of these works based on the original manuscripts.

Out in the Blue is the thirteenth studio album by Australian singer Jimmy Barnes. It was released on 24 November 2007 as both a single-disc and limited double-disc edition. The majority of the songs on the album were written by Barnes, many of them in relation to his recent heart surgery. Neil Finn contributed the track "Blue Hotel" and Kasey Chambers performs a duet on "When Two Hearts Collide". Jim Moginie of Midnight Oil also appears on the album. Out in the Blue is predominantly a rootsy acoustic rock album, but also contains elements of rockabilly and country.

40th anniversary reissue of their classic debut, remixed from original 8-track tapes by co-founder and songwriter/vocalist Scott McCaughey. The original album's 15 tracks are pressed here on limited-edition, opaque turquoise vinyl.

"Sweetest Thing" is a song by Irish rock band U2. It was originally released as a B-side on the "Where the Streets Have No Name" single in 1987. The song was later re-recorded and re-released as a single in October 1998 for the band's compilation album The Best of 1980–1990. "Sweetest Thing" became a number-one hit in Ireland, Canada, and Iceland and reached the top 10 in several countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. In the United States, the song peaked at number 63 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number nine on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart.

In December the trailblazing American-French conductor and harpsichordist William Christie celebrates his 80th birthday. Leading up to this major milestone will be a series of new releases and reissues celebrating Christie’s life and work. “Conversations” highlights Christie’s work as a mentor to the younger generation, with star player Justin Taylor playing duets of music by the unique compositional voice of Gaspard Le Roux.

Determining his creative pathways with the aid of a deck of instructional, tarot-like cards called Oblique Strategies, Eno champions theory over practice, serendipity over forethought, and texture over craft; in the process, he forever altered the ways in which music is approached, composed, performed, and perceived, and everything from punk to techno to new age bears his unmistakable influence.

Ausiàs Parejo is the winner of the 2022 ‘Alhambra’ International Guitar Competition. In this programme he includes three cornerstones of the Spanish and Latin American repertoire. Combining idiomatic colour and rhythmic vivacity, Guastavino’s First Guitar Sonata , Ponce’s great tribute to Segovia, and Brouwer’s ingenious sequence of variations offer formidably ambitious technical and interpretative challenges to the performer. Inspired by his youthful brilliance Juan Erena’s Luz del Alba , full of radiant grandeur, is dedicated to Parejo.

This album is marked by the interaction between John Lee Hooker and his guitar-playing cousin Earl. Earl, who succumbed to illness in 1970, was a fine bluesman in his own right, possessing a formidable slide technique. Many are unaware that the two often performed together, and the band that accompanies John Lee here also backed Earl frequently. The opening cut, then, a slow 12-bar number called "The Hookers" is not about ladies of the evening, but rather about the gentlemen in question.
Heard here less than a year before his death, Earl still sounds frisky and versatile, often utilizing a funky wah-wah style without ever descending into the psychedelic excesses that plagued so many late-'60s electric blues albums…

A new collection from former progressive rock band Fish On Friday - featuring Alan Parsons, Nick Beggs (Mute Gods / Steven Wilson / Lifesigns / Steve Hackett). Esoteric antenna are pleased to announce the release of "An Initiation (2010 - 2017)", a new collection which highlights some of Fish On Friday 's strongest songwriting, taken from their four albums released between 2010 and 2017. Featuring bass virtuoso Nick Beggs, Californian guitarist Marty Townsend, Belgian keyboard player-guitarist-vocalist and producer Frank van Bogaert and drummer Marcus Weymaere; "An Initiation" showcases the ethos of the band - strong songwriting, great musicianship and well thought out arrangements and lyrics.

Pop, rock, and R&B hits are given a jazzy makeover on this collection. Vintage Café: Lounge & Jazz Blends features new interpretations of 30 popular tunes, which have been reworked with new arrangements into mellow, sensuous lounge jazz numbers.

Recorded and filmed over two (sold-out, of course) evenings at Toronto's Air Canada Centre in the midst of the band's 35-date North American R40 tour, the aptly named R40 Live finds Rush at a crossroads. On the one hand, it's a festive affair that sees the stalwart trio performing a lethal mix of classics, deep cuts, and recent triumphs with the gusto of men many years younger, but that carnival atmosphere is tempered by the fact that after 41 years, the band may be finally exiting stage left. Neil Peart's chronic tendonitis may be the biggest contributing factor to the band's retirement from the road, but one would be hard-pressed to find any flaws in his performance. In fact, R40 Live may be the band's most dynamic live LP to date.

While the likes of Rubber Soul, 'See My Friends' and 'Still I'm Sad' had served notice in 1965 of British pop's heightened level of ambition, 1966 would prove to be an even more tumultuous twelve-month period as experimentation and innovation grew to new levels. The release that August of Revolver brought the concept of psychedelic music out of the margins and into the mainstream. However, psychedelia had been percolating throughout the year. The word was already in subterranean use in America, adapted by the likes of The 13th Floor Elevators and Hollywood hustler Kim Fowley, who in late 1965 had become the first person to promote a record with the term "psychedelic". Featuring 84 tracks, A Slight Disturbance In My Mind: The British Proto-Psychedelic Sounds Of 1966 examines the experimental pop element of the British music scene during that epochal twelve-month period with a dizzying, dazzling mix of nascent psychedelia, introspective pop and what's been retrospectively labelled freakbeat. We feature vital contributions from some of the era's biggest names (The Kinks, The Yardbirds, The Hollies, The Animals etc), a bunch of highly collectable cult classics, a huge stash of unissued-at-the-time nuggets and early outings for such future legends as Bowie, Bolan, Slade and The Bee Gees. Housed in a clamshell box containing a 52-page booklet crammed with biographical information and priceless period photos and memorabilia, A Slight Disturbance In My Mind is a glorious snapshot of British pop storming the gates of a new, strange and wonderful dawn.

Willis Jackson was a tough-toned tenor who came to fame as a honker and screamer with Cootie Williams's big band in the late '40s. Although he calmed down his style a bit through the years, he always has a passionate sound and an accessible style best heard on blues, ballads and standards. This is a CD reissue of a 1978 session that features Jackson with guitarist Pat Martino, organist Carl Wilson and a supportive rhythm section. Although the Barbara Streisand-associated "Evergreen" (heard in two versions) and "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" may not seem like the best material for the tenor, he uplifts the songs…
