Any album titled "East Meets West" may raise suspicions of crossover commercialism, and purists may reject this disc as a contrived hybrid of classical and international genres. But violinist Daniel Hope presents a program that is much more than a superficial exercise in multiculturalism, and his selections reveal the exotic impulses that touched many composers in the twentieth century. While Ravi Shankar's Raga Piloo and Swara-Kakali overtly reach westward, particularly in the employment of a violin with the Indian sitar, tabla, and tanpura, Ravel's Tzigane, de Falla's Suite populaire espagnol, and Bartók's Romanian Folk Dances are more dispersed in their regional influences and certainly suggest no connections with Asia.

By combining the 120 extant measures of Mozart's unfinished Concerto in D major for violin and piano, K. App. 56 (K. 315f) with the Sonata in D major for piano and violin, K. 306, composer Philip Wilby has fashioned a performing version that seems reasonably backed by musical evidence, competent in orchestration, and perhaps ingenious enough to meet the approval of some Mozartians. Unfortunately for listeners seeking a major revelation, this reconstruction is short on the felicitous surprises and touching expressions one might find in a fully conceived work by Mozart, and seems a bit ordinary in substance and artificial in development.

A child prodigy in his native Berlin, he moved to the USA in 1939 and made his early career in Hollywood, winning four Academy Awards. His time as Principal Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra (1968-1979) established him as a major interpreter of symphonic repertoire, particularly Russian, French and British music - "The very definition of good conducting," wrote Gramophone of his celebrated LSO version of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker.

For his debut on Warner Classics, Samoan tenor Pene Pati matches favourite showpiece arias with rarer operatic gems in a programme of Verdi, Rossini, Donizetti, Meyerbeer, Gounod and Benjamin Godard. Pati has been called “a revelation … stunning for his generosity of voice, top notes of apparently invincible power, and alluring timbre, “ (Forum Opéra) and praised for his “gleaming, sensuous stream of sound” (San Francisco Chronicle). A singer of glowing lyricism who establishes an immediate rapport with his audience, Pati hopes that the album will leave listeners with a sense of “warmth, tenderness, and the sincerity of storytelling. For a band that scored two major hit singles in their first year as recording artists, the Electric Prunes were given precious little respect by their record label, Reprise Records; the group was allowed to perform a mere two original tunes on their debut album I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night), and when their second, Underground, didn't sell, they became glorified session men under composer and arranger David Axelrod on Mass in F Minor. When the Prunes couldn't play Axelrod's charts to his satisfaction, they were replaced by session men, and the original bandmembers weren't even invited to participate on two "Electric Prunes" albums later released by Reprise, Release of an Oath and Just Good Old Rock and Roll.

This six-disc set from Strawberry Records collects 12 of the great Mississippi-born musician's best-known albums from two important stages in his long career. Mose Allison's work for Atlantic with producers Nesuhi Ertegun and later Joel Dorn defined him as a downright virtuoso pianist in his own songs – as well as the many he covered – showcasing a signature style that perfectly wed blues, bop, and swing. His songs were delivered in a laconic Southern drawl; the originals offered hip, poetic, humorous, sometimes biting lyrics in insightful, often ironic commentaries on modern life, economics, and relationships, earning him the nickname "the Sage of Tippo." The first five discs contain two albums each, in chronological order: I Don't Worry About a Thing and Swingin' Machine (both 1962); The Word from Mose (1964); Wild Man on the Loose and Mose Alive! (1966); I've Been Doin' Some Thinkin' (1968); Hello There, Universe (1970); Western Man (1971); Mose in Your Ear and Your Mind Is on Vacation (1972). The final disc features his two outings for Bruce Lundvall's short-lived but important Elektra Musician label, 1982's Middle Class White Boy and 1983's live Lessons in Living. There are 104 tracks in all. Some of Allison's sidemen during the Atlantic/Elektra eras included now legendary jazz talent such as drummers Frankie Dunlop, Paul Motian, and Billy Cobham; saxophonists Pepper Adams, Seldon Powell, and Lou Donaldson; and bassists Red Mitchell, Bob Cranshaw, and Chuck Rainey.

Above the album worked the 'Lady Sings the Blues ', and his release took place on 2021. The album has got songs with a total duration of more than an hour. A compilation is a compilation of original music.
