ave Okumu's extensive résumé includes three full-lengths as the frontman of genre-defying indie electronic band the Invisible, as well as work on Jessie Ware's albums, several releases by Matthew Herbert, and a collaboration with Joan as Police Woman and Tony Allen and this list barely scratches the surface of everything he's done. Though he released Knopperz, an instrumental hip-hop record based on Duval Timothy's Sen Am, in 2021, he regards I Came from Love as his first true solo project. Credited to Dave Okumu & the 7 Generations, the album is a reflection of his own life and family ancestry (the son of Kenyan immigrants, he grew up in Vienna and has lived in England since he was ten) as well as an exploration of Black history as a whole. The album incorporates spoken passages drawing inspiration from the work of writers and activists such as Aimé Cesaire, James Baldwin, and C.L.R. James, as well as references to historical events.

Composer, guitarist, singer, and bandleader Frank Zappa was a singular musical figure during a performing and recording career that lasted from the 1960s to the '90s. His disparate influences included doo wop music and avant-garde classical music; although he led groups that could be called rock & roll bands for much of his career, he used them to create a hybrid style that bordered on jazz and complicated, modern serious music, sometimes inducing orchestras to play along. This recording gathers, for the first time[1], the complete original compositions for the organ by Giacomo Puccini (Lucca, December 22, 1858 – Brussels, November 29, 1924), collected and published in 2017 under the guidance of Virgilio Bernardoni in volume II/2.1 of the National Edition of Giacomo Puccini’s Works (Carus-Verlag 56.003).
It is thanks to the musicological efforts of the Giacomo Puccini Study Center in Lucca that, between 2015 and 2017, many of these compositions for the organ resurfaced. They had been scattered across various collections. Altogether, there are 57 pieces composed between 1870 and 1880, during the period when the young music student served as an organist in Lucca and neighboring towns.

Doris Day packed four careers into one lifetime, two each in music and movies. The pity is that all most people remember are her movies, from Teacher's Pet (1957) onward, as the quintessential all-American girl, cast opposite such icons of masculinity as Clark Gable and Rock Hudson. She also transposed this following to television at the end of the '60s with a situation comedy that lasted into the early '70s. If most people remember her as a singer, it's usually for such pop hits as "Secret Love" and her Oscar-winning "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)," which became her signature tune. But before all of that, from 1939 until the end of the '40s, Doris Day was one of the hottest, sultriest swing-band vocalists in music.
