Taiji Takata - Violinsonaten (2019)

A genuinely cross-generational project: the well-known South African-born German violinist and concertmaster Ulla Bundies and the 18-year-old Japanese harpsichordist, pianist and master of the Fortepiano Taiji Takata have been playing together for quite some time. They have now recorded an exciting album with violin sonatas by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Mozart and Haydn. Historically informed, in this particular case, we hear a fantastic violin Camillo Camilli from Mantua in 1734, to the Takata plays on two instruments: a French double manual harpsichord after Blanchet and a pianoforte after Anton Walter 1795 Vienna, by Nakayama.

Mozart wrote his Violin Sonata KV 9 at the age of seven in Paris. A little later Mozart met Johann Christian Bach in London, who treated the eight-year-old not as an exotist, but as a colleague on eye level. Volker Hagedorn describes that Leopold Mozart "exhibited his children like circus animals." A horrible idea. It's a miracle in every way how such a broken child could make such music flow.

The later by C. Mozart C.P.E. Bach is represented on the CD with a Sinfonia in D major (for harpsichord accompanied by a violin) and the Sonata in B flat major for Fortepiano and Violin, both in the gallant style of the Potsdamer Hof. Hardly imaginable, Joseph Haydn has composed only one violin sonata at a time, in two movements and in G major. Let us quote Hagedorn again: "It is a solid work of art from the time of the" Apponyi "Quartets, in which Joseph Haydn also reflected the music of a friend who had gone too early - Mozart." The latter concludes the album with his great sonata in D major KV 306.

Recorded in audiophile sound quality in Japan in 2016, this CD is a true example of eloquent articulation, of spontaneous dialogue in terms of sound, and of an experimentally open-minded joy in playing (bow stroke, stroke, tempi). Again, the individual tone of the instruments is a great atout, the interaction of the protagonists harmonious and mutually demanding truthfulness at the same time. Therefore, recording as an alternative to interpretations designed with modern instruments is highly recommended.
