Thanks to his upbringing, he discovered jazz and classical music at an early age: he began studying the saxophone at the age of 5, somewhat by chance, to treat his asthma.

Stanisław Moryto is one of the most important and strongest personalities of Polish contemporary art. Not only was he an outstanding composer, organist, teacher, and animator of musical life, but also an erudite, visionary, and tireless promoter of Polish culture. Above all, he was an authentic person who did not succumb to transient trends. He passed away prematurely, on June 5, 2018, after a long and severe illness. On the fifth anniversary of his death, the musicians of the Prima Vista String Quartet and their guests recall this extraordinary figure by sharing his music, which, as he himself used to say, was most precious and intimate to him.

Florian Krumpöck, the Austrian pianist, conductor and festival director, has chosen Frédéric Chopin's famous Piano Ballads Nos. 1-4 as well as his 2nd Piano Sonata for his first recording. And as a result, Krumpöck creates a very unique sound world that shows how strongly Chopin's melodies are influenced by Italian opera, and especially by bel canto. Nevertheless, the accompanying voices are never neglected: they comment on, counteract, and support the "vocal lines." Two different pianos were deliberately used: a full, overtone-rich Bösendorfer Imperial for the Prélude and the Ballades, a clearer, more "modern" Bösendorfer 280 for the 2nd Piano Sonata.

Spanish/Dutch horn player José Sogorb, 3rd Horn at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, releases Mélodies Volées, a multifaceted hommage to melody. ‘Voler’ means ‘stolen’ in French. Stealing a melody or (better) using its ‘DNA’, is a phenomenon which is from all times. To whom does a melody actually belong? On this sublimely versatile album José investigates this question. He does this in close relation with the splendid pianist Éadaoin Copeland on the majority of the program and featuring José’s RCO colleagues Miriam Pastor Burgos, Mark Braafhart and Rob Dirksen. On Mélodies Volées, you’ll be treated with impeccable horn playing with repertoire ranging from J.S. Bach, Schubert, Brahms, De Falla, Pärt, semi-improvised music, finalised by a freshly made arrangement of a Björk song that flows back again to Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel (who was a contemporary of Bach).

Many Romantic composers owe their fame to one of their symphonic poems. Following the internationally acclaimed improvised solo piano Album The Trondheim Concert and the digital Album release The Nidaros Concert, NXN now release The Hamar Concert recorded in front of a live audience in The Hamar Concert Hall. This album is a live recording of a concert on 29 October last year in the beautiful Kirsten Flagstad Hall in Hamar, my birthplace. Like the Trondheim concert and the Nidaros concert, this concert is also completely improvised and especially characterised by the rich acoustics of the large hall.

Miles Davis' album "Live-Evil" was originally released in 1971 by Columbia Records. The jazz album is a collection of songs from Davis' live performances spanning throughout 1970. "Live-Evil" was originally planned to be a follow up to "Bitches Brew", however the idea was withdrawn after it became clear that the two albums had little to no semblance.

Despite being known for his distinctive prepared piano sound, the Academy Award-winning composer intentionally named his 15th solo studio album Philamthropy to express his compassion and openness. The album's song titles, such as "Diversity," "Nature," "Loved Ones," and "Altruism," perfectly align with their respective musical compositions. Imagining how Bach himself might have transformed the Goldbergs Variations for a chamber group, Rachel Podger and Brecon Baroque present a pioneering new arrangement of the Goldberg Variations by Chad Kelly. Employing a variety of instrumental combinations from a typical Bach ensemble of single strings, oboe, flute, bassoon and harpsichord, these newly-crafted Goldbergs illuminate exquisite responses to the various historical genres inherent in Bach’s scores. This beloved masterpiece was composed through a period of personal tumult for Bach; two unsuccessful job applications, the premature death of his son Gottfried, and criticism of his music in a prominent Hamburg publication. Bach’s outpouring of beauty in the Goldberg Variations has long captured audience’s imaginations - Chad Kelly, Rachel Podger and her fleet Brecon Baroque preserve the work’s exquisite intricacy whilst adding breadth, texture and colour to its emotional backdrop.
