This obscure LP is as notable for some late-period playing by trumpeter Richard Williams as it is for the solos of tenor saxophonist Frank Foster. With flutist Artie Webb, guitarist Roland Smith, pianist Harold Mabern, bassist David Lee, drummer Freddie Waits and percussionist Azzedin Weston completing the group, the music (four forgettable originals by Foster, Billy Mitchell and Hale Smith) has some good improvising and shows the influence that funk and, to a lesser extent, fusion had on the modern mainstream jazz of the 1970s.

In 1968 she was discovered by Bill Cosby, who signed her to his Tetragrammaton label; debut single 'You're Doing It With Her' nearly cracked the R&B top 40, the breakthrough coming in a one-off psychedelic soul recasting of the Doors' 'Light My Fire.' Both singles appeared on Re-Light My Fire, a rarity that changes hands for top dollars, and the rest of the album is just as good, Mike Terry's tasteful arrangements drawing out the best of Hughes' abilities. A great listen for soul fans!
