Maurice Louca, one of the most gifted musicians and composers on Egypt's thriving underground music scene, announces his new album Saet El-Hazz (The Luck Hour), to be released September 24, 2021 via Sub Rosa and Northern Spy.

On Elephantine, his new Northern Spy/Sub Rosa album, Cairo-based Maurice Louca guides a 12-piece ensemble through a panoramic 38-minute odyssey, which he describes as his most ambitious project yet.

Straddling the elusive boundary between the corporeal and the transcendent, Montreal-based psych-pop band Elephant Stone has cemented its reputation as a band deeply invested in probing the contours of dreams and consciousness. Over a 14-year odyssey, their sonic tapestry has evolved into a rich and intricate form of art, capable of capturing the boundless terrain of human emotion and cognition. Set for release on February 23rd 2024, their upcoming album, ‘Back Into the Dream’, serves as the ultimate culmination of this musical evolution, offering listeners an entrancing passage through realms of introspection and wonder.

Schubmoduls instrumental music contains elements from different styles, ranging from hard as nails to dreamy often wrapped ina a robe of psychedelic space sounds. Wilkinson Tri-Cycle's only album is similar to post-psychedelic heavy rock recordings by East Coast groups like Sir Lord Baltimore and Yesterday's Children in that they combine bluesy heavy rock with psychedelic flourishes, but the effect is largely unremarkable. Arranger Kenichi Tsunoda's big band has been one of the top jazz orchestras in Japan since its formation in 1990. This set is particularly impressive for the wide range of the arrangements, the band's musicianship, and the individual solos.

Lionel Leo Hampton was an American jazz vibraphonist, pianist, percussionist, bandleader and actor. Lionel Hampton began his career playing drums for the Chicago Defender Newsboys' Band while still a teenager in Chicago. One of his trademarks as a drummer was his ability to do stunts with multiple pairs of sticks such as twirling and juggling without missing a beat. During this period he began practicing on the vibraphone. Hampton worked with jazz musicians from Teddy Wilson, Benny Goodman, and Buddy Rich to Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus, and Quincy Jones. In 1992, he was inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, and was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1996.

Like swing guitarist Charlie Christian, Clifford Brown was incredibly influential for someone who died so young. The Fats Navarro-minded trumpeter was only 25 when a car accident claimed his life in 1956, but his influence remained long after his death – Freddie Hubbard, Lee Morgan, Woody Shaw, Donald Byrd, and Carmell Jones were among the many trumpet titans who were heavily influenced by Brown.
