Natural Language Communication with Pictorial Information Systems

Natural Language Communication with Pictorial Information Systems by Leonard Bolc
English | PDF | 1984 | 334 Pages | ISBN : 3642822878 | 31.1 MB

This book contains the reports of selected projects involving natural language commu nication with pictorial information systems. More than just a record of research results, however, it presents concrete applications to the solution of a wide variety of problems. The authors are all prominent figures in the field whose authoritative contributions help ensure its continued expansion in both size and significance. Y. C. Lee and K S. Fu (Purdue University, USA) survey picture query languages which form an interface between the pictorial database system and the user and support infor mation retrieval, data entry and manipulation, data analysis and output generation. They include explicit picture query languages that augment alphanumeric data query langua ges as well as languages and command sets which are implicitly embedded in a pictorial information system but perform similar functions. It is worth mentioning that some forms of query languages can be transformed from a given set of natural language senten ces by using ATN (Augmented Transition Networks), which consequently allows for na turallanguage communication with information system.

Non-Functional Requirements in Software Engineering

Non-Functional Requirements in Software Engineering

Non-Functional Requirements in Software Engineering by Lawrence Chung , Brian A. Nixon , Eric Yu , John Mylopoulos
English | PDF | 2000 | 458 Pages | ISBN : 0792386663 | 37.4 MB

Non-Functional Requirements in Software Engineering presents a systematic and pragmatic approach to `building quality into' software systems. Systems must exhibit software quality attributes, such as accuracy, performance, security and modifiability. However, such non-functional requirements (NFRs) are difficult to address in many projects, even though there are many techniques to meet functional requirements in order to provide desired functionality. This is particularly true since the NFRs for each system typically interact with each other, have a broad impact on the system and may be subjective.

Design Research in Information Systems: Theory and Practice

Design Research in Information Systems: Theory and Practice by Alan Hevner, Samir Chatterjee
English | PDF | 2010 | 334 Pages | ISBN : 1441956522 | 5.1 MB

The study of Information Systems (IS) design is an essential part of the education of IS students and professionals. The purpose of this book is to provide a thorough reference on Design Science Research (DSR), and it comes from two authors closely identified with DSR – Alan Hevner and Samir Chatterjee. As founders of the Design Science Research in Information Systems and Technology (DESRIST) annual conference, and as leading educators and researchers in the field, these authors, along with several invited contributors , are uniquely qualified to create this easy-to-read, easy-to-understand, and easy-to-apply text/reference.

Networked RFID Systems and Lightweight Cryptography: Raising Barriers to Product Counterfeiting

Networked RFID Systems and Lightweight Cryptography: Raising Barriers to Product Counterfeiting by Peter H. Cole
English | PDF(True) | 2008 | 350 Pages | ISBN : 3540716408 | 7.7 MB

This book considers the methods used by illicit manufactures and traders to introduce counterfeit goods into the supply chain, the extent of their success, the various barriers that may be brought against their actions, and the effectiveness of those barriers. The new field of lightweight cryptography is described in the context of using RFID systems in the fight against counterfeit products, its cost effectiveness is examined and feasible approaches to its deployment are described. Research problems and likely avenues for solutions are also presented to guide a global effort in anti-counterfeiting.

Fuzzy Databases: Principles and Applications by Frederick E. Petry
English | PDF | 1996 | 236 Pages | ISBN : 0792396677 | 19.5 MB

This volume presents the results of approximately 15 years of work from researchers around the world on the use of fuzzy set theory to represent imprecision in databases. The maturity of the research in the discipline and the recent developments in commercial/industrial fuzzy databases provided an opportunity to produce this survey.

During the last two decades, a tremendous growth in the popularity and applications of computers in manufacturing has occurred. Computer aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, flexible manufacturing systems, group technology and many others are considered by many manufacturing executives as the most promising technologies and philosophies that, if successfully implemented, can reduce costs and enable the US manufacturing companies to become more competitive in the global market.
