Computer Graphics and Geometric Modeling Using Beta-splines

Computer Graphics and Geometric Modeling Using Beta-splines by Brian A. Barsky
English | PDF | 1988 | 154 Pages | ISBN : 3642722946 | 11.1 MB

This book explains the Beta-spline representation for curves and surfaces. This topic is important for the modeling of objects delineated by free-form curved surfaces. Such models are needed in the design and manufacture of three-dimensional parts, as well as in the generation of synthetic computer images. The Beta-spline technique follows from the earlier techniques of Bézier and B-spline curves and surfaces, and forms the latest method in this field. The utility of this technique is the capability of representing complex curved surface objects using natural input specifications. The Beta-spline technique combines powerful and general mathematics with an intuitive specification method. Mathematical underpinnings are sufficiently flexible to allow the representation of a wide class of complex shapes. At the same time, description of these shapes is achieved through the use of intuitive and meaningful specification parameters. In addition to a set of points in three-space, called control vertices, shape parameters are introduced which are parameters whose values indicate the shape of the object in terms of "sharpness" or "flatness".

Applications of Quantum Dynamics in Chemistry

Applications of Quantum Dynamics in Chemistry by Fabien Gatti , Benjamin Lasorne , Hans-Dieter Meyer , André Nauts
English | PDF (True) | 2017 | 435 Pages | ISBN : 3319539213 | 10.98 MB

This book explains the usage and application of Molecular Quantum Dynamics, the methodology where both the electrons and the nuclei in a molecule are treated with quantum mechanical calculations. This volume of Lecture Notes in Chemistry addresses graduate students and postdocs in the field of theoretical chemistry, as well as postgraduate students, researchers and teachers from neighboring fields, such as quantum physics, biochemistry, biophysics, or anyone else who is interested in this rising method in theoretical chemistry, and who wants to gain experience in the opportunities it can offer. It can also be useful for teachers interested in illustrative examples of time-dependent quantum mechanics as animations of realistic wave packets have been designed to assist in visualization.

Fractal Symmetry of Protein Interior by Anirban Banerji
English | PDF | 2013 | 92 Pages | ISBN : 3034806507 | 2.1 MB

The essential question that fractal dimensions attempt to answer is about the scales in Nature. For a system as non-idealistic and complex as a protein, studying scale-invariance becomes particularly important.

The Evolution of Chemical Knowledge: A Formal Setting for its Analysis

The Evolution of Chemical Knowledge: A Formal Setting for its Analysis by Jürgen Jost, Guillermo Restrepo
English | PDF,EPUB | 2022 | 130 Pages | ISBN : 303110093X | 7.8 MB

Chemistry shapes and creates the disposition of the world's resources and provides novel substances for the welfare and hazard of our civilisation at an exponential rate. Can we model the evolution of chemical knowledge? This book not only provides a positive answer to the question, it provides the formal models and available data to model chemical knowledge as a complex dynamical system based on the mutual interaction of the social, semiotic and material systems of chemistry. These systems, which have evolved over the history, include the scientists and institutions supporting chemical knowledge (social system); theories, concepts and forms of communication (semiotic system) and the substances, reactions and technologies (material system) central for the chemical practice.

The Theory of the Jahn-Teller Effect: When a Boson meets a Fermion

The Theory of the Jahn-Teller Effect: When a Boson meets a Fermion

The Theory of the Jahn-Teller Effect: When a Boson meets a Fermion by Arnout Ceulemans
English | PDF,EPUB | 2022 | 429 Pages | ISBN : 3031095278 | 33.8 MB

This book provides a comprehensive discussion of the Jahn-Teller Effect (JTE), focusing on the boson-fermion interaction. While current research is concerned with measuring and calculating ever more sophisticated and complex manifestations of the JT effect, the present volume takes away the epicycles of the theory and focuses on the symmetry dilemma at its core. When fermions and bosons meet, they get entangled and form a new dynamic reality. According to the rules of Molecular Symmetry, this reality is limited to a small set of patterns, with degeneracy cardinalities: 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. The novelty of the book is that it adopts a unique mathematical technique, known as the Bargmann-Fock representation, and treats all degeneracies in detail. So far, this method was only applied to the simplest doublet case therefore its extension to the entire range of cases offers a new unified perspective. This volume will help the reader acquire a clear understanding of the JT effect, discover its universal mechanism and it will be a great tool for researchers and graduates working on this topic.

Practical Numerical Algorithms for Chaotic Systems by Thomas S. Parker
English | PDF | 1989 | 353 Pages | ISBN : 1461281210 | 24.5 MB

One of the basic tenets of science is that deterministic systems are completely predictable-given the initial condition and the equations describing a system, the behavior of the system can be predicted 1 for all time. The discovery of chaotic systems has eliminated this viewpoint. Simply put, a chaotic system is a deterministic system that exhibits random behavior.

Number Theory and the Periodicity of Matter by Jan C. A. Boeyens
English | PDF(True) | 2008 | 380 Pages | ISBN : 1402066597 | 3.2 MB

This book presents a fully scientific account of the use of the golden ratio. It explores the observation that stable nucleides obey a number theory based general law. The discovery described in this book could be of seminal significance, also in other fields where the golden ratio is known to be of fundamental importance.
