Sanna Vaarni began her studies at the Espoo Music Institute with Katarina Nummi-Kuisma.

She graduated from the piano class of prof. Aleksandra Utrecht at the Mieczysław Karłowicz Secondary School of music in Poznań. In 2008, she graduated with honors from the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Poznań Academy of Music, where she studied harpsichord under Professor Maria Banaszkiewicz-Bryła.

ICONOCLASTS is Anna's first album in five years. Centered around her incomparable voice and expressive organ playing, the album features Iggy Pop and Ethel Cain among others. Together with producer Filip Leyman, she has crafted a true epic of experimental rock music, full of bombast and emotion. ICONOCLASTS is the work of a singular artist at the absolute height of her powers.

A former student of the Academy, receiving awards for exceptional merit in studentship and the highest possible recital mark for a postgraduate pianist, Joseph Havlat is a fast-rising pianist and composer, having performed in major concert venues around the UK, Europe, America, Japan and Australia. For his album on Linn, he has chosen to present a selection of music he loves and regularly plays. Both a homage and a remembrance, the core of this album is folk music, of a melodic kind from Janáček and a rhythmic kind from Martinů. Bookending the narrative are works by Kurtág and Havlat himself, acting as prologue and epilogue.

Racines is the musical project of Laurent Perrault-Jolicoeur, a McGill-qualified jazz bassist, and Zal Sissokho, a korafola known for his off-the-beaten-track projects such as Kora Flamenca and Famalé. Together, the two composers seek to reweave and retrace the links between Mandingo and jazz music through their compositions that hybridise the rhythms, harmony and improvisation of each of these traditions.

The piano music of Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) is often upheld alongside that of his contemporary Claude Debussy as quintessentially French and Impression­ist. The reality is more complicated. Neither he nor Debussy were fond of the term ‘Impressionist’ at all, and although born in southern France, there wasn’t really much that was ‘French’ about Ravel. His father was Swiss (not for nothing did Stravinsky nickname Ravel a ‘Swiss clockmaker’) and his mother was Span­ish Basque. If he’d been born eight kilometres further south, Spain could have claimed Ravel as her own. But the family moved to Paris just a few months after Mau­rice was born, which meant his musical upbringing benefited from everything that the capital could offer.
