Realize computer architecture from digital hardware to advanced processors
What you'll learn
- A foundation coarse for developing solutions using microprocessors with advanced architectures
- Understand Microprocessor (µP) architecture in a generic way to design a system around that with specific example of Intel8085, to 8086 and arm processor
- After this course one should be able Transform real world problem to a system by Processor selection, Hardware design , Interface design ,Program and Test
- This course has 25 lectures which were taught by me in a reputed university for more than 30 years
Requirements
- Basic knowledge of digital electronics which is taught in first year of engineering. Students having C programming knowledge will highly appreciate this course
Description
During these years, technology has evolved at fast pace and hundreds of processors became commercially available. Students have a challenge to keep abreast of the advanced architectures continuously. But new architectures can be learnt only when their basic concepts are strong. The objective of this course is to expose the students having little knowledge of digital electronics up to the level of current processor architectures with a step wise approach.
The course stresses the need of formal methodologies in developing hardware, software and system engineering It focusses on basics of realizing a processor and deals in a processor agnostic way. This course discusses basics of realizing processors from digital hardware, then to primitive processors and then the necessity of architectural advances. Concepts behind advanced processor architectures are covered so that students can comfortably understand and work with modern processors. After going through this course, students can develop complex systems confidently.
The course covers
Basic knowledge to realize a computer from digital logic to processor instruction cycle. This helps the reader to design complex hardware around processor.
Covers 8085 as an example to explain basic processor ,its programming and interfacing.
Covers 8086 as an example to explain mid level complexities, its programming and interfacing.
Covers applications development with system engineering principles (use cases, requirements, modelling, testing and integration etc.)
Covers advanced processor architectures in theory in processor agnostic way. This forms strong base to understand state-of-art advanced processors.
Includes Arm processors in one chapter as an example processor.
Who this course is for:
- The subject “Microprocessors_micro controllers and interfacing” is the core subject for understanding computer architecture, computer based system design ,VLSI et al. This subject has to deal with basic hardware knowledge needed for computer design including state of art processor architecture concepts.. All electonics, computer science , instrumentation,CSE ,ECE student need this course.
