It's not always fair in the jazz world either. If it were otherwise, violinist Zack Brock and pianist Phil Markowitz would be among the well-known, internationally acclaimed musicians. But fortunately, when you listen to the music scene, a different picture emerges. The two Americans enjoy an excellent reputation. Nowadays, the name Zach Brock is usually associated with Snarky Puppy. He has been playing regularly with the versatile collective for years and can be heard on eight Snarky albums to date. Brock once belonged to the band of bass ace Stanley Clarke and later, among others, to a group of guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel. A series of his own albums documents his class and his broad stylistic horizon; "Dirty Mindz", his eleventh, was nominated for a Grammy.

"The second, jointly conducted quartet album by the Kentucky-born jazz violinist Zack Brock and the New York pianist Phil Markowitz begins attractively. A slow dialogue, accompanied by the Finnish rhythm section with Jaska Lukkarinen on drums and Ville Herrala on bass. After their debut "Perpetuity" in 2014, the recordings for "Stratus" were made in Sipoo in southern Finland in 2018. The compositions contributed by both explore the breadth of tradition in the sound language of classical jazz. The pieces themselves become layered clouds, a shimmering, light-catching cloud sky over the Finnish plateau.
