Founded in January 1969, Humble Pie quickly became one of the most popular and toughest live bands of the 1970s. With Steve Marriott, the former Small Faces frontman, "The Pie" had the best entertainer and the biggest voice in the business. Peter Frampton, the "Face of '68" with The Herd, took on a new role – guitar hero par excellence. Together with the uncompromising drummer Jerry Shirley and the former Spooky Tooth bassist Greg Ridley, Humble Pie quickly developed into a sophisticated studio band in which hard riffs, rustic rock and psychedelic sound worlds ensured immediate chart success and critical acclaim.
As Safe As Yesterday Is was her debut album on Immediate Records and was released on August 1, 1969. It reached number 32 in the UK charts. Recorded in the Olympic and Morgan studios with top engineer Andy Johns, the album offered a groundbreaking mix of heavy blues, hard rock, pastoral folk elements and acoustic songs - all produced first-class.
