It is one of the magical abilities of musical sounds that they create the most intense “present” and a vital “now!” Therefore, in these TIME TRAVELS, past epochs can be brought into the 21st century and temporal dimensions can experience a sensual vivification: Exactly 400 years before this CD recording, William Byrd (1543–1623) died and is brought back to life here with the magnificent THE BELLS. BRANDENBURGER REMIXED was composed as a tribute to the 300th anniversary of the Brandenburg Concerto No. 2, whose legendary virtuoso trumpet part is still an outstanding benchmark for all trumpet soloists today. – The saxophone concerto SIDDHARTA was composed in 2021 to mark the centenary of the first edition of Hermann Hesse’s novel, acclaimed by millions, in which Hesse so unprecedentedly aptly described a living Buddha who takes us back some 2500 years into the past. – Finally, SILK ROAD refers to Marco Polo, probably the most prominent explorer, who died exactly 700 years ago in January 1324 in his birthplace Venice. So let’s bring back all these places and times with the colourful sound world of these TIME TRAVELS to experience them all over again.

The first part of the Douze Toccates by Hans Georg Nageli was published in Zurich in 1808; there was no second part. On the title page, the composer conceals himself behind an 'editeur' of the same name. Prominent status, on the other hand, is given to the Repertoire des Clavecinistes, a series that ran from 1803 to 1805 in which Nageli published a total of 15 volumes with works by Clementi, Steibelt, Dussek, Beethoven and others.

The trumpet can be traced back for almost 4000 years in many cultures and more than any other musical instrument it is surrounded by the aura of something special: it was the signal giver at ritual, religious, military or royal state occasions. The sound of the trumpet is still ambivalent today: even where it presents itself as sweet, it always resonates with a near-death shaking that can also become infernal and violent at any time. This sound remains connected with cosmic, divine or at least princely royal attitude. Reinhold Friedrich is one of the most uncompromising artists in this field. He is one of the world’s leading trumpeters – sometimes celebrated in the press as the ‘Trumpet God’ – and impresses with a breathtaking variety of repertoire: whether classical valve trumpet, whether the high piccolo trumpet, natural trumpet, historical keyed trumpet, whether with the Jewish shofar or the softer flugelhorn, – his playing always becomes that event which is then able to provoke reactions ranging from goose bumps to a mental flight of fancy. Whether a complex score of new music, whether baroque music and virtuoso classical music or ‘just’ a little melody of folk music: Reinhold Friedrich always knows how to create with his playing that overwhelming presence of ‘Now!’, which characterises the trumpet so uniquely. He is joined by equally exposed masters of their craft: solo trumpeter Hannes Laubin, long associated with Reinhold Friedrich as an equal duo partner and friend, and ‘Grisha’ Gregory Ahss, whose violin playing displays a similar stylistic breadth ranging from classical virtuosity to melodically heart-warming emotionality. This distinctive sound college is rounded off by the Munich Symphony Orchestra / Munchner Symphoniker, conducted by Martin Baeza-Rubio, which is as colorful as it is sensitive.

For years, Margarita Höhenrieder was searching for the authentic sound of Frédéric Chopin's piano works. Which instrument of its time most convincingly reflected Chopin's music? Chopin himself had given the answer in 1831: "Pleyel's instruments are the nec plus ultra"! The choice for the recording therefore fell on a Pleyel fortepiano, built around 1855 in Paris and expertly restored using historical materials and methods. It is absolutely identical in construction to the instrument Chopin owned and thus represents an authentic sound testimony. The recording location was also of particular importance: the Mazurkas were recorded on this instrument, in a room comparable to a salon from around the middle of the 19th century. The recording of the E Minor Concerto with the historical version by Jan Ekier then took place on another Pleyel of about the same year of construction, in the acoustically outstanding Oberstrass church in Zurich. Margarita Höhenrieder's careful recreation of the authentic Chopin sound gives the listener highly interesting insights into music.

Some of Jean-Nicolas Diatkine's singer friends have ended their careers, but their magic is irreplaceable in his eyes, or rather in his ears. He misses them, just as he misses the Schubert, Schumann and Brahms songs they sang. Well, there is only one person who can compensate for this loss, and his name is Franz Liszt. The main aim of transcriptions was to make orchestral works known to a wider audience, at a time when there were far fewer orchestras, and public access to symphony concerts was very limited. But Liszt gives transcriptions a new meaning: he puts the orchestra into the piano, since his style is particularly suited to outsized extravagance. Thus he opens up unprecedented pianistic possibilities, where virtuosity is no longer mere exhibitionism but rather transformed into the art of illusion. His arrangements of Wagner are so convincing that they become his own personal creations.Laurent Bessières, piano tuner at the Paris Philharmonic, suggested for this recording a Schiedmayer piano of 1916 made in Stuttgart, which he had completely rebuilt in collaboration with Antoine Letessier-Salmon, director of the French National Centre for Scientific Research, and Stephen Paulello, piano maker and inventor of the strings that bear his name. This instrument has almost never been used in concert, however excellent work by Laurent Bessières convinced us to try it out in this very special repertoire.

In this CD we encounter Schubert in the music of his main oeuvre - the huge number of his songs, but also his extensive collection of chamber music and piano pieces - so we frequently come across a trait of the composer's that presents itself again and again and very centrally: his tendency towards deep melancholy in all its manifestations and in particular his constant return to the confrontation with death.

Folk music and dance have always been a source of inspiration for art music as they keep in touch with people's souls. Nonetheless, composers' tendency towards a universal musical language has considerably diluted the ethnic character they contain, a phenomenon particularly noteworthy in Europe.

This music will take you into a sphere that is interwoven with emotions and infatuating melodies. Inspired by composers like Ennio Morricone, John Barry or Michel Legrand, I found the artistic power to create this album. The musical themes arose from different narratives and combine gentleness and melancholy with strength and energy. This new and unique recording was made possible through the successful collaboration with the Ensemble Symphonique de Paris under the direction of conductor Carlos Dourthé. The recording for this album was made in late 2019 with the Ensemble Symphonique de Paris, consisting of musicians from the Orchestre National de France as well as musicians from the Orchestra of the University of Paris, conducted by Carlos Dourthé. Patrice Muzard's works are currently performed regularly both in France and internationally in prestigious concert halls.

For Russian musicians, the romances of Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov have always been a test of their artistic maturity. The very name of the genre carries a great many shades of meaning in Russian, denoting what at times are very varied forms of musical utterance. The vocal chamber works by these two composers, who are usually mentioned in the same breath as luminaries of Russian music, really do exhibit the vast range in artistic expression of their creators.

The Heinzen-Mead Duo's second album on solo musica celebrates the song repertoire of women composers from Romanticism to our current days with twenty-four songs by twenty-four women composers. The Swiss soprano Franziska Heinzen and British-Polish-German pianist Benjamin Mead set out to research the work of women composers for Clara Schumann's bicentenary in 2019 – and discovered a valuable treasure of relatively unknown music. Beginning with a life journey through refreshing spring feelings, the album goes on to describe painful hours of loneliness and uncertainty as well as anxious premonitions of death and dark fears. Five examples of self-confident female characters, whose experiences are concluded with wiser, reflections on life, as seen retrospectively
