Peter Mergener takes new steps with his new album New Horizons and there are new horizons, as the name of the album already says.
His numerous compositions have a wide range from pure Berlin School electronics to world music, cosmopolitan, lounge and rock music. From the beginning, his heart has beaten for cosmic music, which had its beginnings with Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream. But Mergener was also influenced by Pink Floyd and he started recording music with synthesizers at the end of the 70's, some of which were later released on the first Lp's of Software. Mergener now returns to his beginnings with New Horizons and delivers an excellent album, which is characterized by very beautiful spherical pads, sequences and space effects…

Software formed in 1983 by German duo Peter Mergener and Michael Weisser, Software owes much to electronic pioneer Klaus Schulze. Software's music usually builds on sequencer patterns and simple melodies, creating a lighter version of The Schulze style. Digital-Dance is globally very relaxing and alternates floating pieces (Magnificient-Shore), atmospherical tunes (Island Sunrise, Sea-Gulls-Audience) and for sure synthetic tracks (Oceans-Breath, Digital-Dance) and odd passages (Waving-Voices). Soundscapes are very reminiscent of Tangerine Dream is the mid 80s.

Beam-Scape is the debut album by Michael Weisser and Peter Mergener, made before they officially adopted the group name Software. This album consists of Software's typical '80s influenced progressive new-age electronic. The tracks move very slowly, and progress in the same way: beginning drone, then asequence of arpeggios on keyboard, then a melody played on top with another keyboard, all in the presence of dreamy space sounds throughout.

Die Musikformation Software setze sich konzeptionell mit dem aufkommenden Thema „Computerkultur“ auseinander.
