Das berühmte Neujahrskonzert der Wiener Philharmoniker ist auch 2020 der prachtvolle und exzellente Auftakt zum neuen Klassik-Jahr.Im festlichen und für seinen Klang berühmten Goldenen Saal des Wiener Musikvereins präsentieren die Wiener Philharmoniker ein beschwingtes Programm.Erstmals leitet der lettische Dirigent Andris Nelsons, einer der besten Dirigenten der Welt und bekannt auch als Chef des Gewandhauses Leipzig, die Wiener Philharmoniker, mit denen er seit vielen Jahren eng verbunden ist.Das unterhaltsame Programm enthält bekannte und entdeckenswerte Walzer und Polkas von Johann Strauss Vater und Sohn, Carl Michael Ziehrer, Franz von Suppé, Hans Christian Lumbye und anderen Komponisten.Und das allererste Mal ist bei einem Neujahrskonzert auch Musik von Ludwig van Beethoven zu hören, dessen 250.Geburtstag die Klassik-Welt 2020 feiert.

The 2019 New Year's Concert will be conducted for the first time by Christian Thielemann. A native of Berlin, Thielemann has been a regular and welcome guest of the Vienna Philharmonic since 2000, with the result that his first New Year s Concert may be seen as setting an example and providing an appropriate tribute to his previous work with the orchestra. According to the orchestra s chairman, Daniel Froschauer, orchestra and musicians trust each other completely: "The profound musical understanding and trust that have existed from the outset and that have always functioned perfectly have subsequently borne remarkable fruit in the symphonic repertory as well."

The Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert took place under the baton of Zubin Mehta on January 1, 2015, in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna. The Philharmonic's Honorary Conductor Zubin Mehta, with whom the orchestra has enjoyed an artistic partnership for over 50 years, conducted the New Year's Concert for the fifth time.
This year's concert was broadcast in over 90 countries around the world and was seen by 50 million television viewers. The program for the New Year's Concert 2015 featured numerous compositions by Johann Strauss Father and Son, Eduard and Josef Strauss as well as works by Franz von Suppé und Hans Christian Lumbye. Five pieces were performed for the first time as part of the New Year's Concert. The program also commemorated 650 years of the University of Vienna and 200 years of the Technical University of Vienna.
